Bo ‫בוא‬
“come or go”
Exodus 10:1-13:16
• Moses was 80 years old when he stood before
pharaoh
• Israel dwelled in the wilderness 40 years
• Moses died at 120 years old
• The plagues had to be less than a year
• I suggest 6 months between Sukkot and
Passover (the winter months)
Exd. 12:23 For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians, and when he
sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the
door and will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you. 24 You
shall observe this rite as a statute for you and for your sons forever.
ָּ‫ פָּסָּח‬pesach
[1Co 11:23-26 KJV] 23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered
unto you, That the Lord Yeshua the [same] night in which he was betrayed took
bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake [it], and said, Take, eat: this is
my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the
same manner also [he took] the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the
new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink [it], in remembrance of
me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the
Lord's death till he come.
Pharaoh's papyrus scrolls may not seem the most reliable sources for
investigating the story of the Israelite’s Exodus, but Egyptologist Galit Dayan has
found in them much compelling evidence to support the historicity of the biblical
tale…Dayan, who earned her Ph.D. in Egyptology from Hebrew University in
Jerusalem …told the group that linguistic evidence reveals an ancient and deeply
involved Jewish presence in Egypt that eventually disappears. To illustrate, she
drew remarkable parallels between the language of Egyptian papyrus
(hieroglyphs), the haggadah and the Bible, all of which contain references to the
Exodus story. In piecing together these manuscripts, Dayan framed an Exodus
narrative based on facts of Egyptian history and language to prove her theory
that a mass Exodus did occur and that it happened during the reign of Ramses II.
In each of the Egyptian manuscripts Dayan discussed, the same familiar
characters are mentioned: Moses (“an Egyptian name”), Pharoah, the Red
Sea/Sea of Reeds (“Yam Suf” in Hebrew), Hebrews, Israelites and the presence of
slaves in Egypt.
In one manuscript, known as the Ipuwer papyrus, there is an eerie description of
chaos in Egypt: “Plague is throughout the land,” Dayan’s translation reads, “blood
is everywhere — the river is blood ... and the hail smote every herd of the field ...
the land is without light and there is a thick darkness throughout the land ... the
Lord smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt — from the firstborn of Pharoah
that sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the prison. ...”

[Jhn 3:2-10 ESV] 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that
you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is
with him." 3 Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he
cannot see the kingdom of God." 4 Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born
when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" 5
Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he
cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that
which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born
again.' 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know
where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." 9
Nicodemus said to him, "How can these things be?" 10 Jesus answered him, "Are you the
teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?
•Israel was formed as a nation in the womb of
Egypt
•Prior to entering Egypt Israel didn’t exist as a
nation
•However God still knew Israel
Jeremiah 1:5 NLT “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.
Before you were born I set you apart
and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”
Egypt = Mitzrayim ‫ִמצְריִם‬
Root word= Tsur ‫צּור‬
confine, cramp
[Exo 1:7, 12 KJV] 7 And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased
abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was
filled with them. ... 12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they
multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.
Tribulation = Tsar ‫צר‬
Tight or narrow
Deut. 4:30-31 When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon
thee, [even] in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be
obedient unto his voice; (For the LORD thy God [is] a merciful God;) he will not
forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which
he sware unto them.
"Listen to Me, O house of Jacob,
And all the remnant of the house of Israel,
Who have been carried out from the womb
And have been carried out from the uterus; (Isaiah 46:3)
Moshe- to draw from the water
Aharown- to bring into the light or light bearer
The seed of Abraham went into Goshen (Egyptian
for “to draw near”) the “egg fertilized”
[Exo 2:23-24 KJV] 23 And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of
Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and
they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage. 24 And
God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham,
with Isaac, and with Jacob.

An ancient book of Kabbalah, the Tikkunei Zohar, expounds upon the first
word in the Torah (bereishit, "in the beginning"), by explaining its different
permutations in seventy different ways. This corresponds to the statement of
the Sages that there are seventy "faces" to the Torah (Bamidbar Rabbah
13:15). As a crystal with many faces reflects light differently according to
various angles, so too, the Torah reveals myriads of interpretations and gives
birth to new insight according to the ever-changing perspective and spiritual
level of the individual.
The theme of Torah, creation and birth, as well as the seventy faces of Torah,
is connected to the custom of a woman in labor to recite the Twentieth
Psalm, comprised of seventy words. This custom is further associated with
the statement that a deer doesn't give birth till she has cried out seventy
times (Zohar 3:249b). These seventy cries relate to the seventy souls of Israel
that went down to Egypt during the famine that had overtaken the land of
Canaan.
Torah (tav, vav, reish, heh)
v'tahar (vav, tav, heh, reish)
v’tahar= “to become pregnant”
•10 plagues come upon Egypt- the womb
•A woman has to be 10cm dilated in order to give birth
•The first plague is blood- mucus plug
•The baby has to turn in order to exit the birth canal so Passover
the feast of redemption/Freedom is implemented
•The baby crowns- it is at this stage that Israel appears leaving
Egypt (the womb) being identified with the blood of the Lamb- A
royal priesthood
•Israel goes through the birth canal (Red Sea, Yam Suf) and is fully
born on the other side
•The Egyptians die in the sea- the umbilical cord is cut
‫מִ‬
‫ם‬
• Israel receives milk or is nursed at the mountain
[Hbr 5:12-14 KJV] 12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need
that one teach you again which [be] the first principles of the oracles of God; and
are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13 For every one
that useth milk [is] unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14 But
strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, [even] those who by reason
of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
[1Pe 2:2 KJV] 2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye
may grow thereby:
2 Peter 3:15b-16 Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom God gave him—
speaking of these things in all of his letters. Some of his comments are hard to
understand, and those who are ignorant and unstable have twisted his letters
to mean something quite different, just as they do with other parts of Scripture.
And this will result in their destruction. (NLT)
