1. AO3 - Brainstorm the starting point
CLOSE UP
Artists are sometimes inspired by the idea of close up views of their subject. For
example, the Boyle Family, Robert Cottingham, Alison Watt and the photographer
Andreas Feininger have created unusual and sometimes abstract work from close –
up views.
Research appropriate sources and create your own response
Produce a brainstorm for the theme that uses word association to generate ideas.

The Boyle Family

collaborative artists based in
London. They are perhaps most
well known for their Earth
studies.
These pictures - highly accurate
painted casts that operate
somewhere between painting
and sculpture - involve the
meticulous re-creation of
randomly chosen areas of the
Earth's surface using resin and
fibreglass (as well as real
materials from the site)

considered to be one of most
important original Photorealist
painters. Cottingham's work
focuses on items associated as
Americana. He studied art at
Brooklyn's Pratt Institute
Alison Watt

Scottish painter, born
in Greenock on 11
December 1965. Alison
Watt graduated from
Glasgow School of Art

4. AO3 - Primary and Secondary Recording
You must now find appropriate objects and items to record from. The main
ways you will do this will be through observational drawing and photography.
Record from primary sources first and move onto secondary sources if
