Identify Go, Slow, and Whoa Foods

2. Check calories
% DV (daily value)
3. Limit these
5% or less is low
20% or more is high
4. Get enough of
these
• Serving Size – The size of the serving
influences the number of calories and amount
of nutrients.
• Calories measure how much energy you get
from a serving of food.
• Fat, cholesterol & sodium – Eating too much
of these may increase your risk for heart
disease, diabetes, some cancers, high blood
pressure and obesity.
• Fiber, vitamins & minerals –Eating enough of
these can improve your health and help
reduce the risk of some diseases. Most of us
don’t get enough.
• Percent (%) daily value – The % DV helps you
determine if a serving of food is high or low in
a nutrient. 5% or less is low and 20% or more
is high.
