History of Lions

• • • The Pembroke Lions Club was sponsored by the Renfrew Lions Club and was chartered on July 17, 1951 with 26 members. During the early 1970’s, the Club started recruiting members from the Petawawa area, and in 1976, the Club applied to Lions International to have Petawawa added to the Charter. On July 17, 1977, the Club became known as the Pembroke Petawawa Lions Club.

The Club has met in various locations over the years, and in 1989, plans were drawn for a new hall and a permanent location for the Club. In June 1993, the Club opened its new building at 1163 Victoria Street in Petawawa.

The Club has always been a leader in community events and in raising funds to support key project. Some of our Club’s fundraising has included the Petawawa town clock, the Jaws of Life for the fire department, and a $25,000 pledge for the Pembroke Regional Hospital.

Men, women and children of all ages form part of our volunteer network which is active in the Pembroke and Petawawa areas. Our club meeting is held on the second Mondays of each month at 7:00pm. We discuss fundraising and distribution of funds.

If you are interested in the Lions Club, we welcome you to inquire with any of our members.

Why Walk for Dog Guides??

• To help provide Dog Guides at no cost to the growing number of Canadians who need them. To enjoy a fun day out in your community. Walk with your friends, family and co-workers. The event is pet friendly but you don’t need a dog to participate. Everyone is welcome – all ages and abilities – and you are not required to complete the route to participate. Everyone is a winner! 100% of the funds you raise goes towards this important program and you could earn an incentive prize.

With the generous support of sponsors, both at the national and local level, 100% of the funds raised go directly towards the Dog Guide programs and ensure that the
