Reflection DIARY
A NEW APPROACH TO CLASSROOM
WORSHIP.
AREIAC WORKSHOP
JULY 11
Collective Worship Today!?

“It can no longer be justified to
continue this mandatory Collective
Worship to a captive audience in
schools, given that the majority of
pupils – in secondary schools at
least – are not religious…. The
long and continuing decline in
religious belief has reached a point
where in many schools any
collective worship is embarrassing
to pupils and teachers alike.”

We strongly support the
continuation of Collective
Worship in all schools,
recognising the major contribution
it makes to the spiritual and moral
development of pupils, which is a
prime goal of education. It is
believed by other faith groups to
be of benefit even though its
emphasis is mainly Christian.”

What the inspectors said
 ‘They also take the
opportunities through
reflection time and
prayer provided in
assembly and in their
‘reflection diaries ‘ to
consider a range of
issues, including the
plight of those suffering
elsewhere in the world’
Ofsted
 ‘The innovative use of
reflection diaries
throughout the school
are seen by students as
an important
opportunity for them to
have time to think about
the messages they hear
in worship. The diaries
encourage students to
add depth to their
thinking’ SIAS
