Middle School students taking a high school course will take both grade level STAAR and STAAR EOC, i.e. STAAR 8 th Math and STAAR Algebra I

What does the law (HB 3) say?

 The STAAR EOC assessment score will account for 15% of a student’s final grade in the course.

○ …but how to apply to Semester 1, Semester 2, and final grade is a district decision ○ …and “a relationship should exist” between the 15% EOC requirement and GPA / Class Rank

How will the final grade be distributed?

85% from teacher

 Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II  Biology, Chemistry, Physics  English I, English II, English III  World Geography, World History, U.S. History  •

15% from EOC

The STAAR EOC assessment score will account for 15% of the student’s final course grade.

New Student Performance Levels

Cumulative Score: # of EOC’s taken in a content area multiplied by a passing score

For example: 3 x 70 = 210

Algebra I = 70

Geometry = 70

Algebra II = 70

EOC Retakes & Recalculation

 By law, EOC Retakes are allowed by the student for any reason; however,  BISD will recalculate EOC Retakes for final grade posted on AAR only until the student earns course credit.  Highest EOC Retake score will be used for cumulative score after credit is earned.

 EOC Retakes for Class Rank  Beginning with 9 th graders entering high school in 2013 2014, FIRST TIME EOC is scored with an “S code” by Pearson.

How are we preparing for STAAR?

 District- and Campus-Level Professional Development  Curriculum Collaboration & Alignment  Instructional Materials & Resources  Local Policy and Regulation Revisions  Parent Information on BISD Web Page

Report Cards

 1 st Semester Notice  9 th Grade and 7 th /8 th in EOC Courses  End-of-Year Report Cards – Possibly 2  Preliminary in early June  Final in mid-June after EOC scores received

To Be Determined

 2012 Summer School  5 weeks from May 31 to July 9 for intensive remediation  Location, Teachers, Curriculum, EOC Test Administrators/Proctors  Future changes to EIC Local (Class Rank) in preparation for 2013-14 9 th Grade Cohort  CBE, Correspondence Courses, Electronic Courses, Final Ranking of Seniors
