Why market registered
medicines?
Because it is the right thing to
do!!!!
MASCA & MASCR (S.I. 150 of 1991 &
Subsequent amendments) govern
the manufacture, importation,
exportation and distribution of
medicines in Zimbabwe.
Registered medicine
A registered medicine is one that has been
granted marketing authorization by the
competent Regulatory authority (MCAZ).
Safety quality and efficacy of the medicine
has been proven after the following
conditions have been met;
•Satisfactory documentation in accordance
to the MCAZ guidelines has been
submitted.
•The product has been analysed in the
laboratory and passed all tests.
•The manufacturing facility has been
inspected and found compliant with WHO
current GMP requirements.
BENEFITS OF MARKETING A
REGISTERED MEDICINE
•Reduces or eliminates the chances of
counterfeit medicines.
•Reduces risk of resistance to a medicine.
•Incorrect administration (wrong product for
wrong species) is not done knowingly.
•Proper storage of medicines as per label.
•Possibility of compensation in the event of
ADR.
HOW SHOULD A REGISTERED
MEDICINE LOOK
The following information should be on the
label:
• Generic and/or trade name or both.
• Zimbabwean registration details, e.g.
(86/802211/9112)
• Category for distribution (PP, Vet,
V.M.G.D.)
• Strength of the medicine
• Date of manufacture and expiry
• Batch number
A limited manufacturer of veterinary
medicines.
Wholesaler and general dealer for veterinary
medicines, vaccines, stock feeds and
equipment.
Official distributor of Pfizer Animal Health
(Pty) Ltd products.
