The World Bank joined China as the co-sponsor of the AFDP in February, 2002. In 2004, after three year successful operation of AFDP, President Hu Jintao announced the establishment the Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Center (AFDC), at the APEC Summit in Chile, in order to continue China's contribution to strengthening institutional capacity building in the Asia-Pacific region.
