DU-1, Chang-Qiang

Location: Below the tip of the coccyx, at the

midpoint of the line connecting the tip of the coccyx and anus.

Luo-connecting

point

Indications: Diarrhea, hematochezia, hemorrhoid, prolapse of rectum, constipation, pain along the spinal column, lumbago, epilepsy.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-0.1 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The branches of the inferior hemorrhoid artery and vein.

Innervation: The posterior ramus of the coccygeal nerve, the hemorrhoid nerve.

DU-2, Yao-Shu

Location; On the sacrum and on the posterior

midline, just at the sacral hiatus.

Indications: Irregular menstruation, aching pain and stiffness of the back and low back. hemorrhoid, flaecidity of the lower extremities, epilepsy.

Method: Puncture obliquely upward 0.5-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The branches of the median sacral artery and vein.

Innervation: The branch of the coccygeal nerve.

DU-3, Yao-Yang-Guan

Location: On the low back and on the

posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the 4th lumbar vertebra.

Indications: Irregular menstrualtion, emission, impotency, lumbosacral pain, flaccidity of the lower extremilies.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Vasculature :The posterior branch of the lumbar artery.

Innervation: The medial branch of the posterior ramus of the lumbar nerve.

DU-4, Ming-Men

Location: On thee low back and on the

posterior midline, in the depression below the spine)us process of the 2nd lumbar vertebra.

Indications: Stiffness of the spinal column, lumbago, impotency, emission, irregular menstruation, diarrhea due to indigestion, abnormal vaginal discharge.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Vasculature :The posterior branch of the lumbar artery.

Innervation: The medial branch of the posterior ramus of the lumbar nerve.

DU-5, Xuan-Shu

Location: On the low back and on the poslerior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the 1st lumbar vertebra.

Indications: Stiffness of thee back and low back, diarrhea due to indigestion.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Innervation: The medial branch of the posterior ramus of the lumbar nerve.

DU-6, Ji-Zhong

Location: On the low back and on the posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the 11th thoracic vertebra.

lndications: Epigastric pain, dialrrhea, jaundice, epilepsy, stiffness of the back and low back.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 cun.

Vasculature: The posterior branch of the eleventh intercostal artery.

Innervation: The medial branch of the posterior ramus of the eleventh thoracic nerve.

Du-7, Zhong-Shu

Location: On the low back and on the posterior midline , in the depression below the spinious process of the 10th thoracic vertebra.

Indications: Epigastric pain. lumbago, stiffness of the back.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The posterior branch of the tenth intercostal artery.

Innervation: The medial branch of the posterior ramus of the tenth thoracic nerve.

DU-8, Jin-Suo

Location: On the low back and on the posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the 9th thoracic vertebra.

Indications.. Epilepsy, stiffness of the back, stomachache.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The posterior branch of the ninth intercostal artery.

Innervation: The medial branch of the posterior ramus of the ninth thoracic nerve.

DU-9, Zhi-yang

Location: On the back and on the posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the 7th thoracic vertebra.

Indications: Jaundice, cough with dyspnea, stiffness of the back, chest pain and backache.

Method: Puncture obliquely upward 0.5-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The posterior branch of the seventh intercostal artery.

Innervation: The medial branch of the posterior ramus of the seventh thoracic nerve.

DU-10, Ling-Tai

Loeation: On the back and on the posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the 6th thoracic vertebra.

Indications: Cough with dyspnea, furuncle, stiffness of the back and low hack.

Method: Puncture obliquely upward 0.5-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The posterior branch of the sixth intercostal artery.

Innervation: The medial branch of the posterior ramus of the thoracic nerve.

DU-11, Shen-Dao

Location: On the back and on the posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the 5th thoracic vertebra.

Indications: Amnesia, palpitation, stiffness of the back and low hack, cough, precordial pain.

Method: Puncture obliquely upward 0.5-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The posterior branch of the fifth intercostal artery.

Innervation: The medial branch of the posterior ramus of the fifth thoracic nerve.

DU-12, Shen-Zhu

Location: On the back and on the posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the 3th thoracic vertebra.

Indications: Cough with dyspnea, epilepsy, stiffness of the back and low back.

Method: Puncture obliquely upward 0.5-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Vasculature: The posterior branch of the third intercostal artery.

Innervation: The medial branch of the posterior ramus of the third thoracic nerve.

DU-13, Tao-Dao

Location: On the back and on the posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the 1st thoracic vertebra Indications: Stiffness of back. headache, marlaria, fever.

Method: Puncture obliquely upward 0.5-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The posterior branch of the first intercostal artery.

Innervation: The medial branch of the posterior ramus of the first thoracic nerve.

DU-14, Da-Zhui

Location: On the posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the 7th cervical vertebra lndications: Headache complicated with stiffness of nape and back, marlaria, fever, epilepsy, hectic fever, cough with dyspnea, common cough.

Method: Puncture obliquely upward 0,5-1,0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The branch of the transverse cervical artery.

Innervation: The posterior ramus of the eighth cervical nerve and the medial branch of the posterior ramus of the first thoracic nerve.

DU-15,

Location: On the nape, 0.5 cun directly above the midpoint of the posterior hairline, below the 1st cervieal vertebra.

Indications: Manic depressive psychosis, epilepsy, deaf mutism, sudden loss of voice, apoplexy, stiff tongue, pain in the occipital region, stiffness of nape, epistaxis.

Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-0.8 cun. Deep stabbing or puncturing upwards prohibited. The angle and depth should be controlled accurately.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-0.8 cun. Neither upward obliquely nor deep puncture is advisable. It is near the medullary bulb in the deep layer, and the depth and angle of the puncture should be paid strict attention to.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The branches of the occipital artery and vein.

Innervation: The third occipital nerve.

DU-16, Feng-Fu Location: On the nape, 1 cun directly above

the midpoint of the posterior hairline, directly below the external occipital protuberance, in the depression between the trapezius muscle of both sides.

Indications: Headache, neck rigidity, blurred vision, epistaxis, sore throat, post apoplectic aphasia, manic depressive disorders, epilepsy.

Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1 cun. Deep insertion prohibited.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-0.8 inch. Deep puncture is not advisable. Medullary bulb is in the deep layer, special attention should be paid in acupuncture.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The branch of the occipital artery.

Innervation: The branches of the third cervical nerve and the great occipital nerve.

DU-17, Nao-Hu

Location: On the head, 2.5 cun above the midpoint of the posterior hairline, 1.5 cun above Fengfu nerve.

(DU16), in the depression on the upper border of the exlernal occipital protuberance.

Indications: Epilepsy, dizziness, stiffness of the nape and neck.

Method: Puncture subcutaneously 0.3-0.5 cun. Moxibustion is applicable

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The branches of the occipital arteries and veins of the both sides.

Innervation: The branch of the great occipital

DU-18, Qiang-Jian

Location:On the head,4 cun above the midpoint of the posterior hairline, 1.5 cun above Naohu nerve.

(DU17).

Indication: Headache, stiffness of nape, giddiness, manic-depressive psychosis.

Method: Puncture subcutaneously 0.3-0.5 cun. Moxibustion is applicable

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The branches of the occipital arteries and veins of the both sides.

Innervation: The branch of the great occipital

DU-19, Hou-Ding

Location: On the head, 5.5 cun above the midpoint of the posterior hairline, 3 cun above Naohu nerve.

(DU17).

Indications: Headache, dizziness, manic depressive psychosis, epilepsy.

Method: Puncture subcutaneously 0.3-0.5cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The branches of the occipital arteries and veins of the both sides.

Innervation: The branch of the great occipital

DU-20, Bai-Hui

Location: On the head, 7 cun directly above the midpoint of the anterior hairline, at the midpoint of the line connection the apexes of both ears.

Indications: Headache, blurred vision, nasal obstruction, tinnitus, post-apoplectic aphasia, mental disorders, epilepsy, prolapse of the rectum, insomnia.

Method: Puncture subcutaneously 0.3-0.5cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The anastomotic network formed by the superficial temporal arteries and veins and the occipital arteries and veins on both sides.

Innervation: The branch of the great occipital nerve.

DU-21, Qian-Ding

Location: On the head, 3.5 cun directly above the midpoint of the anterior hairline and 1.5 cun anterior to Baihui (DU20).

Indications: Epilepsy, dizziness and light headedness, pain in the vertex, rhinorrhea with turbid discharge.

Method: Puncture subcutaneously 0.3-0.5 inch. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The anastomotic network formed by the right and left superficial temporal arteries and veins.

Innervation: On the communicating site of the branch of the frontal nerve with the branch of the great occipital nerve.

DU-22, Xin-Hui

Location: On the head, 2 cun directly above the midpoint of the anterior hairline and 3 cun anterior to Baihui turbid discharge.

Regional anatomy

(DU20).

Indicatons: Headche, vertigo, rhinorrhea with Method: Puncture subcutaneously 0.3-0.5 cun. This point is prohibited in infants with metopism. Moxibustion is applicable.

Vasculature: The anastomotic network formed by the right and left superficial temporal artery and vein and the frontal artery and vein.

lnnervation: The branch of the frontal nerve.

DU-23, Shang-Xing

Location: On the head, 1 cun directly above the midpoint of the anterior hairline.

Indications: Headache, vertigo, rhinorrhea with turbid discharge.

Method: Puncture subcutaneously 0.3-0.5 cun or prick to cause bleeding. This point is prohibited in infants with metopism. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The branches of the frontal artery and vein, and the branches of the superficial temporal artery and vein.

Innervation: The branch of the frontal nerve.

DU-24, Shen-Ting

Location: On the head, 0.5 cun directly above the midpoint of the anterior hairline.

Indications: Epilepsy, palpitation, insomnia, headache, dizziness, rhinorrhea with turbid discharge.

Method: Puncture subcutaneously 0.3-0.5 cun, or prick to cause bleeding. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The branch of the frontal artery and vein.

Innervation: The branch of the frontal nerve.

DU-25, Su-Liao

Location: On the face, at the centre of the nose apex.

Indications: Nasal obstruction. epistaxis, rhinorrhea, dyspnea, loss of consciousness, convulsion, asphyxia neonatorum.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.2-0.3 cun, or prick to cause bleeding.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The lateral nasal branches of the facial artery and vein.

lnnervation: The external nasal branch of the anterior ethmoidal nerve.

DU-26, Shui-Gou

Location: On the face, at the junction of the

upper third and middle third of the philtrum.

Indications: Manic-depressive disorders, epilepsy, infantile convulsion, coma, trismus, puffiness of the face, deviation of the mouth and eye, pain and stiffness of the lower back.

Method: Puncture obliquely upward 0.3-0.5 cun.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The superior labial artery and vein.

Innervation: The buccal branch of the facial nerve, and the branch of the intraorbital nerve.

DU-27, Dui-Duan

Location: On the face, on the labial tubercle of the upper lip, on the vermilion border between the philtrum and upper lip.

Indications: Manic-depressive psychosis, hemiparalysis of face complicate with twitching and stiffness of the lips, gingivitis.

Method: Puncture obliquely upward 0.2-0.3 cun.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The superior labial artery and vein.

Innervation: The buccal branch of the facial nerve,and the branch of the infraorbital nerve.

DU-28, Yin-Jiao

• Location: inside the mouth, in the superior frenulum, at the junction of the upper lip and the gum.

Indication: Mania, upset, hysteria.

Methods: At the junction of the gum and the

frenulum of the upper lip when the patient sits with the back leaning against the chair.

Anatomy: Mucous membrane, submucosa,

periosteum. The nerve of the mucous membrane is overlapping distributed by rami labiales superiors of the crotaphitic nerve.
