Why Videotape?
Your videotape is the only way NB can see the
following:
• your interaction with students and their
interaction with you and each other
• your classroom climate
• your engagement of students in their own
learning

NB Video Entry Preplanning:
Standards
• Write the NB standards that will be the focus
of the videotaped lesson to help you focus on
what is important for you and your students to
demonstrate.
• Think about the ways elements in the NB
standards can be included in the description,
analysis, and reflection of the written
commentary about the videotaped lesson.

NB Video Entry Preplanning: Level
4: Performance Indicators
• Establish targets for your video by reviewing
the Level 4 rubric for Entries 2 and 3.
• Record what NB values from the rubric.
• Brainstorm ways that each indicator might be
demonstrated in your video or commentary.
• Think of units and lessons you will be teaching
that might best allow you to demonstrate the
standards and meet the performance
indicators in your video.

NB Video Entry Preplanning:
Analysis Questions
• NB provides questions in the “Video
Recording Analysis” section of the
“Composing My Written Commentary.” These
questions will help in preplanning.
• Write key phrases and words from the
questions.
• Then brainstorm evidence you can show and
analyze in your video entry.

Hints for Drafting Your Planning &

More Hints for Written

Practice
• First attempts are often an inauthentic view.
• NB suggests having at least three different
practice attempts (different teaching formats).
• Always base your practice videos on the NB
standards.
• Analyze practice videos alone (1st=see,
2nd=hear, 3rd=see & hear) to raise your level of
awareness of different aspects of the video.
