STUDENT LOGGING OUT
Students personalize their
own login id, by choosing a
picture or icon and adding
their name.
To logout they tap their
picture/icon. They will go to
their personal information
screen and logout.

• App added to RCSD Default

HOW DO TEACHERS ACCESS
THE DASHBOARD?
• Teachers can login with the app
OR the on-line Dashboard at:
teachers.newsomatic.net
• Teachers will be able to log in to
the app and create student
accounts from the Teacher
Dashboard, click on the red
“Teacher” button

• Teachers will have a User ID to login
and set up a class
• Add Students, User ID & passwords
CREATING A CLASS
• In the Teacher Dashboard, tap
the "Menu" button, then tap
"Add Class".
SET UP STUDENT USERNAMES & PASSWORDS
• Enter the name of your class, the
grade you teach, and at least one
student's first name, last name,
username and password
• Note: passwords have to be at
least 6 characters long
• Click the "Save Class" button
ADDING STUDENTS TO A CLASS
• To add students to a class, first
make sure that the Dashboard
shows the class you want to add
students to.
• Then, tap the "Menu" button and
tap "Class Login Info".
ADDING MORE STUDENTS
• Enter student details for the students
you want to add to the class, then tap
the "Save Class" button. You can add
several students. The app will register
your new students, and display a red
"Saved" text.
• Note that it may take some time for the app
to process the new students' registration.
READING LEVELS AND QUIZZES
Teachers can set Lexile levels
indivually for students, and
customize one of the questions
related to each article.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF NEWS-O-MATIC?
• Once you have created a class and added
students, you will be able to:
• Choose different reading levels by student,
group or class, assess students’ reading &
comprehension with embedded daily
multiple-choice assessment questions
• Customize questions by student, groups or
class
• See analytical data on students and classes.
HOW DO YOU SELECT LEXILE READING LEVELS?
• Click on “Menu”, from the drop down
options, choose “Analytics”.
• For each of your students, choose the
appropriate Lexile Reading Level. *Note
that there are 3 major category levels:
400L – 600L; 600L – 750L; 750 – 1050L
• You can check the student Comprehension
Reading Scores as well as Class Average
Score from this area.
HOW DO YOU ADD A CUSTOM QUESTION?
•
From the Analytics Menu area, select the
edition you want to add questions to using the
drop-down menu next to the "Assessment
Questions" button.
•
Then, tap the blue "Assessment Questions"
button.
•
Tap the article you want to add a question to,
then tap the "Add Question" button.
•
Note you can turn on the Class Chat area from here,
top left side.
HOW DO YOU ADD A CUSTOM QUESTION?
•
Enter the question, click save.
Students will type their
response in the app.
•
An alternate is to get students
to share their response via
another platform like a shared
Classroom document in Office
365 - OneDrive or Kidblog.

5 articles/ day with quizzes

Tons of interactivity – Quizzes, games, puzzles, Write to
Russ the Editor page, class chat, drawing page, news
videos, slideshows

Articles can be read to the student

Easy-to-use Teacher Dashboard

Students can download and use app at home, but must
download the FREE Members app, then login

Older students could continue to explore articles by
blogging with apps like Kidblog

• The username and password is
required to access the News-OMatic for EDU Members app and
for managing the teacher features.
