Key messages
 Guaranteeing food safety along the food supply chain,
from primary production to consumers, means dealing
with multiple challenges
 The complexity of these challenges has to be
addressed through scientific research and research
policy that will generate new knowledge and promote
its innovative use to deliver new technologies and
solutions
 Adopt an inter-disciplinary approach, with
emphasis on the social sciences and humanities in
order to make innovation accepted by the consumer
and citizen
