The SLDS Program Vision

FLDOE leads the nation in collecting, storing and disseminating actionable student-centric statewide longitudinal data via a comprehensive multi-faceted PK-20 Education Data Warehouse (EDW 2.0); Consistently meets information interests of public education stakeholders transparently with a selective set of data tools, analytics and easy access to key centrally-administered applications via a single gateway; and, Efficiently facilitates data-driven decisions with timely data to improve student learning and research toward closing achievement gaps.

The SLDS Program

3 Grants

 SLDS 09 (Round 3)  July 2009 – June 2014  SLDS 09 ARRA (Round 4)  July 2010 – June 2013  Race to the Top, Section C  October 2010 – June 2014

2 Focus Areas

 Accessing Data  Using Data

The SLDS Program SLDS 09 (Round 3)

 Data Governance (initial phase complete)  “A system of decision rights and accountabilities for information-related processes, executed according to agreed upon models which describe who can take what actions with what information, and when, under what circumstances, using what methods”. – Data Governance Institute  Metadata Management Tool (Start: July 2011)  Implement a modern MDM tool to:  Track data managed by Data Governance  Maintain system’s metadata

The SLDS Program SLDS 09 (Round 3)

 Researcher’s Sandbox (Start: Spring 2010)  Provide approved data to researchers in a more efficient manner  Automated Approval Process (Start: Spring 2012)  Provide data more efficiently to external data requestors and FLDOE staff

The SLDS Program SLDS 09 ARRA (Round 4)

 Upgrade PK-12, Florida Colleges and Workforce Education systems as part of EDW 2.0 (in progress)  Consolidated model for the 3 systems and the EDW 2.0

  Not your Dad’s EDW… Pilot implementation only; Statewide implementation to follow  Statewide Unique Identifier (Start: July 2011)   Provide an identifier that is unique across the state and across time Component to Teacher Student Data Link

The SLDS Program SLDS 09 ARRA (Round 4)

 Report Building Tool(s) (Start: August 2011)  Provide data to stakeholders in a user friendly format via the web  Ability to access data without requiring MIS intervention  Data Mining Tool(s) (Start: October 2011; internal capability only)  To assist the FLDOE in applying business analytics to identify best practices and problem areas quicker and more accurately

The SLDS Program – Race to the Top

 Portal and Single Sign-On (Start: July 2011)  Central point to access data  6 systems identified for initial SSO; 3 year deployment    Year 1 – CPALMS, FAIR Year 2 – FACTS.org, Interim Assessment Item Banks Year 3 – eIPEP, FloridaSchoolLeaders.org

 Dashboards and Pre-defined & Customizable Reports (Start: August 2011)  Provide user-friendly views to aggregate data

The SLDS Program – Race to the Top

 Local Instructional Improvement Systems and Local Systems Exchange (mostly complete)    LIIS Minimum Requirements (web site) LSE – Collaboration site for RTTT districts and consortia http://www.fldoe.org/arra/LIISMS.asp

 Data Downloads for LEAs (Start:?)  Standardized data format for LEAs to incorporate in their LIIS  Professional Development (Start:?)  Research Agenda (Publish date: July 2011)
