What is our current position?

Values

Our values were re-visited at August In service and continue to underpin our practice The values of global Citizenship were developed across each stage throughout Diversity Week and focused on some of the Rights of the Child Further values work has been introduced through the implementation of Paths at the early level.

We have held our assemblies based on our values and have welcomed visitors from outside agencies, the local community and charities to address the whole school.

We have updated our values wall with current achievements and charity donations and continued to develop our Golden Book for celebration of success to add to our Wall of Achievement on a monthly basis.

We continue to celebrate pupils achievement by choosing Shining Stars on a weekly basis.

New House system in place

Experiences and Outcomes

Parental mathematics workshops held in P.1 – P7 classes Successfully held Dahlastic day to focus on works of Roald Dahl Two members of staff trained as Numicon Trainers for local authority.

Cluster Science Event showcased good practice and learning opportunities in Science Successful Diversity week where visitors raised awareness of cultural & physical differences in society Successfully applied for Edina Trust grant to purchase science resources for every stage Involvement in Nursery curriculum planning pilot SHRE monitored and evaluated Nursery play area enhanced Nursery outdoor learning planner in use

Totality of the Curriculum

Supportive parental involvement across whole school and nursery class.

We have strong community links e.g. entertaining local senior citizens, visits to local library, participation in Kilmacolm Show. After school and lunchtime clubs run by school staff, active schools staff and parents for pupils from P3-P7.

Active schools coordinator develops after school clubs, taster sessions and events/tournaments. Achievement is recognised across the curriculum and celebrated with the whole school at assembly.

All classes produce class newsletter for parents detailing work on termly basis Interdisciplinary learning is used to plan coherent programmes of learning.

Cross curricular novel studies are in place at all stages – refreshed novels Eco committee continued to meet & coordinate Eco initiatives across all stages. Working towards 4 th Eco flag Carefully planned focus days allow for depth of learning e.g. Eco Day, World Book Day, Diversity Week, Fairtrade Day & coffee morning.

Successful participation in Inverclyde Music Festival

Personal Support

All staff monitor Staged Intervention files and are aware of ASN policy and referral process. Parents involved in setting IEP targets.

Further work undertaken to raise awareness of GIRFEC principles and practice New GIRFEC paperwork in use Planned programme of transition visits between nursery and P.1 class and parent/child induction afternoons held.

Transition meetings held with PGHS for ASN pupils in P.6 & P.7

Learning and Teaching

HMIe reported children’s learning & teaching in KPS are of a high quality Staff have reflected on all aspects of teaching and learning through regular staff meetings/ discussions.

All pupils with IEPs have target sheet displayed on their tables and are aware of their targets Heinemann Active Maths now fully in use at all stages Maths workshops held for all parents 4 staff members attended Lynda Keith’s early years maths training All staff now trained in Cooperative Learning All staff now trained in Big Writing Numicon materials in regular use in nursery and P.1

HMIE reported a welcoming and inclusive ethos and very successful promotion of equality and diversity Stage meetings/transition meetings held to allow transfer of information.
