Introduction
• “[Because of senior seminar] I have finally
realized what I am capable of. I have more
confidence in myself and my work.”
-- Theresa Olson, class of 2003
Topics
• What is “The Senior Project”?
• How is it related to Senior Seminar Class?
• Some “Do’s” and “Don’ts”
The Senior Project
is a process . . .
•
•
•
•
a Research Paper
a Project
a Portfolio
a Presentation
Research Paper
•
•
•
•
•
6-8 page paper in the approved format;
Students choose topic;
apply knowledge from research to project;
must use a primary source in paper
(not an immediate family member!)
Project
•
•
•
•
Students choose own project
requires minimum of 15 hours outside of school
should apply knowledge gained in research
Some projects produce tangible results (i.e.:
building a computer); others involve
performances (playing an instrument); others
are service projects (volunteering at charitable
organizations)
Portfolio
• Students develop portfolio through
process
• Senior Project Manual contains all the
items required in the portfolio
• (copy on Triton website)
Presentation
• On Wednesday May 27, 2015: Board of Review
• All students give an 10 -15 minute presentation on paper
and project
• followed by a 5-minute question/ answer period.
• Board of Review is pass/fail. (Failing presentations are
re-scheduled.)
• Board consists of 2-3 teachers and at least 2 community
members. Parents and friends--if seniors permit it--may
sit in on the boards.
Senior Seminar Class
one semester class housing the Senior Project
class structure for the process
provides opportunities to present topics of
concern to graduating seniors.
Topics presented
•
•
•
•
•
•
Budgeting and Financial Planning
Banking /Credit Issues
Real Estate Issues
Life/Home/Health Insurance Issues
Interviews and Resumes
CPR Certification
Some Don’ts and Do's
• Don’t choose project for which you will be paid.
• Don’t choose mentor that is an immediate family
member.
• Don’t choose paper or project that is required
for another class or college course work
• DO choose topic and project you are really
interested in. . . That will challenge and excite
you . . . That you will be proud of presenting!
Life Lessons
• The Senior Project is “Process.” Why?
• • We all must make decisions in life. In this
process, students will need to make decisions
and solve various problems.
• • We need to stay informed (teach ourselves) to
make best decisions for ourselves or for our job.
This process allows students to do that.
• • Overall, Senior Process is real world
experience in making intelligent, informed
decisions to reach a goal.
What This Means
• Seniors: take process very seriously: gain
knowledge, experience, and satisfaction!
• Parents: help them
• 1. Choose topic of genuine interest.
• 2. Choose project that will create a learning
stretch!
• 3. Choose project that can be realistically
accomplished.
Next Steps
• Talk with student; have student think
about what he/she would like to do.
• Support decision but help set realistic
goals.
• Encourage learning stretch to new
levels.
• Encourage a positive attitude. . . The
end result--the knowledge of true
accomplishment--is worth the effort.

Commencement
Graduation practice will be Thursday, May 28,
at 9:00 AM – All students MUST attend to go through the
ceremony.
 Graduation is May 31 at 2:00 PM
 Doors will open at 1:00 PM and Seniors are to be at
school at this time too.
 Please be respectful of others attending the ceremony
and do not block seats for more than four family
members
 Seniors must be within one credit of the 28 total in order
to go through ceremony
 Honors classes are used for class rank

“SKIP DAY”

Triton High School does NOT recognize or give
excused absences to students that take off for
what is commonly called a “Skip Day”.
Administration will determine if a Skip Day has
occurred. Students that take off on a Skip Day
and are found to be absent for this reason will
have their absence counted as UNEXCUSED. This
can negatively affect a student’s ability to make
up assignments or tests missed on the day of the
absence and may result in additional school days.
Commencement Speakers
 Self-Nomination
– Only those who
want this honor submit their names
for consideration
 Students write a paragraph describing
why they want to speak.
 Senior vote for three of these
submissions – if tied there have been
four!
Triton’s Website

On-line JMC Access will allow you to

Schoology will be used by all teachers
