Paladin™ Environment and Security
Management Solution
Environment and Security Management –
Crucial for Business Flow
• Crucial to ensure business continuity

Office buildings
Communication rooms
Datacenters
Telecom and utilities remote sites
• Real-time, active solution significantly increases
organization’s ability to protect its business interests
Environmental Threats – Datacenter Example
•
Human error is #1 threat to datacenter uptime
and availability
• Failure of a primary or backup air conditioner
• Lost cooling means: temperature rises from
68°F (20°C) to over 85°F (30°C) in ~ 8.6 min.
• For every 18°F (10°C) temperature rises above
68°F (20°C), servers lose ~ 50% of their
reliability*
• Power consumption per typical datacenter rose
39% during last 5 years *
• Average datacenter: 28% of the chilled air
actually reaches the computer equipment*
• “Blue line" (30°C) once crossed, IT equipment
will be damaged and lower its MTBF*

Heat Load per Product Footprint
Datacenters Standard – New Addendum
• HVAC - Heat Ventilation & Air Conditioning
• “This Addendum specifies revised requirements for
temperature and humidity in data centers to:
– reduce energy consumption for lighting, heating, ventilation, and
air conditioning;
– provide more flexibility in maintaining temperature and humidity in
telecommunications spaces;
– harmonize with environmental guidelines developed by ASHRAE;
(American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air
Conditioning Engineers)
– maintain reliable operation of information technology and
telecommunications equipment in telecommunications spaces…”
Quoted from TIA 942 addendum 2 (draft)

Case Studies
Case Study – Israel Electricity Company
• Over two million consumers
• 61 manufacturing units and 17 local sites
• 180 switching substations
The Need
• Each sub-station contains crucial passive and
active equipment
• Sub-stations are not manned
• 24/7 control is crucial for:
–
–
–
–
–
Electricity failures
Systems restart
Configurations
High temperature alerts
Security aspects such as unauthorized access
The Achievements
• Central management of all systems in one solution
• More than 5 fold savings compared to previous
solutions (multiple management systems)
• Full redundancy
• Additional benefits
– Most alerts can be handled by remote
– Technicians are not called to the site for every alert
– Real-time control
Case Study – Veolia Environment
• A world leader in environmental services
• Customized solutions address the needs in four
complementary segments:
–
–
–
–
Water
Environmental services
Energy services
Passenger transportation
• Over 319K employees worldwide
The Need
• Generators are used to supply additional power
when demand exceeds electrical company capacity
• The dates and the hours of any expected surge in
power is published on the EC’s website a day
ahead
• Remote operation and fuel management of these
generators at different hours, with no human
presence, is needed
The Solution
• The solution was chosen as the most appropriate
due to its completeness (hardware and software)
– Real time controllers that communicate with edge units
(generators and fuel tanks)
– Controls transfer of data to a control center via cellular
and/or IP networks
– All data is saved and analyzed in the CMS such as:
• Visual sites
• Real time status of the generator
• A variety of reports and graphs in different formats
The Achievements…
• Central management of multiple sites with extensive
number of controllers
– Hundreds controllers
• Remote control capability was the deciding factor in
the success of the project
