Upcoming Changes to Inhibitor Testing
• Regulatory Testing
• Shift to “surveillance” testing
• Testing based on known or suspected risk
– e.g. macrolides (Pursue)
• Load Screening
• Increased testing at plants by DFO & OMAFRA
• Processor results confirmed using approved confirmatory
(rapid) test
• Increased chance of penalties, and even higher chance of
assessement of losses and costs

• Charm
• ROSA 3 SL3 B-Lactam
• ROSA Sulpha
• ROSA Tetracycline
• Idexx
• SNAP B-Lactam
• Plants can choose from above and may also use:
– Charm SL6, IDEXX Sulfa and Tetracycline
• DFO pays for tests
• Screening results confirmed using same test
or one of approved confirmatory tests

Message to Producers – from Vets
• Inhibitor testing will test for more drug families
• Follow labels for withdrawal of milk and meat.
• Follow prescription for withdrawal of milk and
meat when using antibiotics off-label.
• Have access to rapid tests for drugs used
