Beginning of 1920 –
Higher courses of Study
were begun in Kaunas
16 02 1922 –
Establishment of the
University of Lithuania in Kaunas
07 06 1930 –
The University was named Vytautas Magnus University
31 10 1950 –
The University was re-organized
into Kaunas Polytechnic Institute and the Kaunas Medical Institute
28 04 1989 –
The act of re-establishment of Vytautas Magnus University was signed
16 02 2007 –
85th Anniversary of Vytautas Magnus University
29 04 2009 –
20th Anniversary of
re-established Vytautas Magnus University
GOVERNANCE
• The Senate is the highest self-governing
body of the university which serves a term
of fives years.
• The Council is an institution of public
observation and care which consists of 18
representatives from the university,
Lithuanian science, culture, economics
organizations, government and local
government.
