What is MY
®
Access!
 MY Access! ® School Edition is a Web-based, crosscurricular program that transforms writing instruction
and assessment by applying superior artificial
intelligence and linguistic technologies to the writing
process.
 Educators can make timely, data-driven decisions for
successful differentiated instruction, and motivate
students to write more frequently by providing them
with immediate feedback.
 It is equipped with more than 1,300 writing topics in
math, science, language arts, and social studies that are
aligned to the common core standards.

Setting Up Your Classes
Groups & Assignments
 Edit and maintain all aspects of the groups you own you can:
1. create a group,
2. add or remove students,
3. View log in information
4. edit your group information,
5. add or remove assignments,
6. change group status, and
7. delete groups entirely.
Setting Up Your Classes
Create a Group
• Select the Create a Group button in the top right
• Enter a name for the group in the top text field
• Select your name for the owner
• Period
• Grade Level
• Subject
Optional Information: description, room number, period, grade level
Click the SAVE button

Adding Students to a Group
• Select Groups & Assignments
• Find the group you want to add students and place the bullet next to the
group name on the left
• Click the Students icon on the right
The list on the left side of the screen shows the current members of the group and the
list on the right shows all the student registered in MY Access!
• Click the boxes next to the names of the students whom you wish to add to
your group.
• Click the SAVE button. The students that you selected will now appear on
the left side of the screen.

1. Create a group for each of your class periods.
2. Add the students to the appropriate class periods.

View Student Login Information
• You can view the login information for each student by
clicking the View Student Login Information button at the
top of the screen.
Assignments
Adding an Assignment
• You can add assignments for a specific group or your entire roster
and here’s how …
1.
Select Group & Assignments from the tool bar
2.
Locate the group you want to add an assignment and place a
bullet next to the group name on the left.
3.
Click on the Assignment icon to the right
4.
Click the Add Prompt in the lower right-hand corner of the
screen. A new screen will appear with the assignment wizard,
allowing you to choose an essay prompt and customize the essay
options.

Selecting a Prompt
• You can choose an essay prompt and customize the essay options, just
follow these steps …
1.
Select the grade level.
2.
Select the type of prompts (genres).
3. When you have finished customizing your search, click the
Search button to the right.
To choose a prompt, click the Select Prompt button.

Availability Settings
• You can set the start and end date for each assignment and the
number of submissions.
1.
Use the group list on the right to select which group(s) you
wish to assign the prompt.
2.
Select the number of submission you will allow and the
start/end date.
Click the Setup Scoring button to proceed to the next step
of the wizard.

1. Use the bullet points at the top to select either a 4 or 6
point rubric.
2. Select what scores you would like to appear in the
score.
Click the Step 5: Setup Feedback button to proceed
to the next step of the wizard.

1. Select the desired MYTutor setting from the left-hand
side of the screen
2. Use the dropdown to select an appropriate feedback
readability level for the students.
3. Use the button five check boxes to select which traits
you wish to provide feedback on in the MYTutor
section.
To proceed to the next step of the wizard, click Step 6: Add Tools

You can select prewriting tools and reference features you want
to enable for students to access.
When you are finished selecting the tools, click the Save and Assign
button.
You MUST click SAVE AND ASSIGN to lock-in this
assignment for your class.

What is Snapshot
Report?
The report shows the student’s progress over time. It is
updated weekly and is based on: focus, content development,
organization, language use, mechanics & conventions.
The student’s performance is scored as below proficient,
proficient, and advanced.
What does the
message center do
and how can it help
students?
The Message Center will auto-alert the student when you add
a comment. The message will disappear once you read it.

To begin writing, click start on the appropriate prompt.

resume an
assignment on
another day?
Click on the resume button to come back to the essay. The
resume will only work if you have not submitted your essay
for scoring.

revise their work

Essay may be revised as many times as you allow. All
students have to do is click on start revision and then okay.
What is the
difference between
“save and finish
later” and “submit
essay”?
When students save and finish later the text will not be scored.
When students are ready for their text to be scored, they must
click on resume and submit essay.

mean?
Text was assessed based on the 6 traits of writing. The graph
provide student a big picture of the overall quality of the
essay.
What is a revision
plan and how do I
use it?
Each revision plan is individualized to help students revise
and improve their writing. It is organized by the 6 traits and
displayed in the suggested order.
To access, click on the specific goal. To add to your revision
plan, click on add to revision plan button.

How do I view the

portfolio?
• Filter Results allow you to decide what you want to see in
the Portfolio.
• Essay Action gives links to print/save summary and My
Editor reports.
• Summary Report provides a graphed summary of all
summary reports.
• My Editor Report helps you find possible errors and gives
suggestions for improvement.
• Scores show your holistic (big picture) scores.
• Status indicates if your essay was scored, not scored, or
flagged for inappropriate content.

students can select different options to help edit the text.

To view teacher comments, click on the comments button on
portfolio page. A new window will open and show the
date/time of each comment.
What is “Writer’s
Models”?
These are examples of student writing and are organized
according to the rubric. Models 1-3 are Below Proficient, 4-5
are proficient, and 6 is Advanced. Explanation is provided on
how the models were scored.

Student Portfolios
The portfolio page allows you to view essays, scores, overall
performance, and status. You can also generate parent letters, create
and send comments, feedback, and email.
1. Select Student Portfolios from the access bar
2. Select the group you would like to view and the date
range from the dropdown menus at the top.
3. Click the Go button and your results will display in the
bottom table
You can use the dropdown menus to toggle between groups, or
click on a student’s name to view his/her individual profile.

2. Select the type of report you want to generate from the list of
available reports by clicking on its button
3. Use the dropdown menus and selection lists to select the general report
settings
4. Click
Submit button to generate the report.

performance overall (holistic score) and for each
specific domain tested on one or more writing
assignments.
Early Intervention: Groups students according to their
performance on a specific writing assignment.
History: Show average performance over multiple
assessments over time.
