“Glossary” Terms
• Flashback-a scene in a movie, play, short story,
novel, or narrative poem that interrupts the
present action of the plot to show events that
occurred at an earlier time.
• Motivation-the driving force, stimulus or
influence that puts the characters into action.

• Protagonist –
– Main Character in fiction or drama. The
protagonist is the character we focus our
attention on, the person who sets the plot in
motion.
• Rounded
• Dynamic Characters who change in some important
way by the end of the story, novel, or play.

• 1. Compulsory- adj. required; enforced
To Kill a Mockingbird is a compulsory reading for
tenth grade students.
2. Caprice- Noun- a sudden notion or
desire.
• Employees have complained of being at the
mercy of the manager's every whim and
caprice.
3. Audible- adj. capable of being heard
Her voice was barely audible over
the noise.
4. Zealously- adv. – fervently; devotedly
Mr. Krabs zealously guards the secret of his special
sauce in his krabby pattys, which he sells in his
restaurant, The Krusty Krab.
• 5. Indiscriminately- adv.- without making careful
choices or distinctions; randomly.

• The ballerina moved with such ethereal grace, it

7. Cleaving- verb- splitting

8. Illusory- adj.- not real; based on false ideas.
The illusory giraffe disguise fooled nobody. Everyone
knew it was a wiener dog.
9. Posterity- noun- descendants; future generations
