Jesus
Exalted by God
What




Must
Every
Person
Do? Phil. 2:9-11
Knee :Every knee
should bow
Tongue: Every Tongue should
Confess
Phil. 2:9-11
Phil. 2:9-11 NKJV Exalted Christ!

9 Therefore God also has highly exalted
Him and given Him the name which is
above every name, 10 that at the name of
Jesus every knee should bow, of those
in heaven, and of those on earth, and of
those under the earth, 11 and that every
tongue should confess that Jesus Christ
is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Therefore….in view of what has just
been said
Phil. 2:1-4 NASV Be Likeminded!

Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if
any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit,
if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by
being like-minded, having the same love, being
of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done
through selfish ambition or conceit, but in
lowliness of mind let each esteem others better
than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only
for his own interests, but also for the interests of
others.
Be Like-minded







Phil. 2:1-4 v. 2 That you be likeminded..
a) Same love
b) Being of one accord
c) Of one mind
v.3 Nothing be done through strife or
Vainglory, but in lowliness of mind, let each
esteem others better than themselves
v.4 Look out not only for your own interest,,
but also for the interests of others.
Phil.2:5-8 NKJV Christ Mind!
Look what Christ did….

5 Let this mind be in you which was also in
Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did
not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but
made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of
a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of
men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man,
He humbled Himself and became obedient to the
point of death, even the death of the cross.
Consider what Jesus did!





1. He was in the form of God “He existed as
essentially one with God” (Vincent’s word studies)
John 1:1-3
2. He thought it not ‘robbery’ to be equal with
God. He was ‘equal’ with God. Cf. John 1:1
Literally,
“a thing to be grasped”; something to be laid
hold of, and retained jealously.” He did not feel
He had to cling on to this equality.
Consider what Jesus did..








3. He made himself of no reputation ,
Or “he emptied himself”
..He divested Himself of the ‘glory’ He had with the Father.
( John 17:5 “And now, O Father, glorify thou me with
thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before
the world was.”)
4. He took upon himself the form of a servant
He did not come as an earthly King or Prince
Or some royalty position..
He came simply as a son of a carpenter.
5. He was made in the likeness of men
Heb.2 :14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of
flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that
through death He might destroy him who had the power of
death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through
fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16 For
indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid
to the seed of Abraham. 17 Therefore, in all things He had to
be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and
faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make
propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that He
Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those
who are tempted. And..


Heb. 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great
High Priest who has passed through the
heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast
our confession.
( Heb . 5:8,9 )



6. He was found in fashion as a man.. He was truly ‘man’.
He had flesh and bone as a man.
7. He humbled himself. Heb. 5:7,8
who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up
prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to
Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard
because of His godly fear, 8 though He was a Son, yet He
learned obedience by the things which He suffered.


8. He became obedient unto death—even the death of the
cross.
Thus:.. Jesus became a man
JESUS
Became man
Humbled Himself
As a man
Obedient
As a man





“Though in every way a man like you or me
(while still the Son of God!! Matt.17:1-5) He
humbled Himself and obeyed God—obediently
suffering and dying on the cruel cross..
WHY DID HE DO ALL OF THIS?
He did it all for the sake of others—for YOU and
for ME! John 3:16; Rom. 5:8,9
Phil. 2:9-11 NKJV Exalted Christ!

9 Therefore God also has highly exalted
Him and given Him the name which is
above every name, 10 that at the name of
Jesus every knee should bow, of those in
heaven, and of those on earth, and of
those under the earth, 11 and that every
tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is
Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

EXALTED
CHRIST
Rev. 5:11-14





11 Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the
throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was
ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, 12 saying
with a loud voice:
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
To receive power and riches and wisdom,
And strength and honor and glory and blessing!”
13 And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under
the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard
saying:
“Blessing and honor and glory and power
Be to Him who sits on the throne,
And to the Lamb, forever and ever!”[a]
14 Then the four living creatures said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four[b]
elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever.[c]


Those in heaven,
and of those on earth,
and of those under the earth:
This conveys the absolute totality of all
creation recognizing the superiority of
Jesus Christ.
Phil. 2:12-13 NKJV

12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have
always obeyed, not as in my presence only,
but now much more in my absence, work
out your own salvation with fear and
trembling; 13 for it is God who works in
you both to will and to do for His good
pleasure.

2 Kinds of Obedience
2
Kinds of
Obedience

1. Done in the Presence
of Others .…Col.3:22
..”not with eyeservice,as
men-pleasers,but in
singleness of
heart,fearing God.”

2. Done in the Absence of
Others. Done to please
God. Faithful no matter
what others do or
think.Gal.2:20

What will every personal being do..?





Confess Jesus as Lord!..
“.. Every personal being will ultimately
confess Christ's lordship, either with joyful
faith or with resentment and despair.“
1. Confess Christ. Mtt. 10:32,33
2. Confess I am a sinner. Rom. 3:23;
Rom. 6:23
In the Old Testament we read:




In Isaiah, it is to the Lord that all knees bow and tongues
confess :
Isaiah 45:23: I have sworn by Myself; the word has gone
out of My mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that to
Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall take an oath.
In Philippians it is to Jesus, showing that Jesus is Lord
Phil. 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should
bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under
the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Conclusion:





1. Every person shall confess Christ…
Here on earth - to his own salvation
Mtt. 10:32,33
2. In Eternity—To his own condemnation.
Mtt. 10:32,33
