DAN OFFICE FAQ’S
 Q: How
do I set up a Dan Office account
to promote my students’ Black Belts
through Kukkiwon?

A: You must hold a 4th Dan or higher Kukkiwon
certificate in order to process certificates. Send
in a copy of your 4th Dan or higher Kukkiwon
certificate with your Club and Individual
Membership applications (unless you already
have both memberships) and request a Dan
packet be sent to you. If you supply an email
address the Dan packet can be emailed.
Q: Does USA Taekwondo process Skip
Dan requests through Kukkiwon?
A: Yes, we process Skip Dan requests. For
more information, please click on the Skip Dan
Information page in the processing presentation
Q: How do I make a request for a
replacement certificate and/or card?
A: Anyone who is a Kukkiwon certificate holder,
can request a replacement. For a replacement, you
simply need to fill out a correction/replacement
form and send it in to us along with the $30.00
processing fee. You must submit two pictures with
the form. Replacements take 4 – 6 months to
process. Download the correction/replacement form.

Q: How do I make a request for a correction
certificate and/or card?
A: Anyone who is a Kukkiwon certificate holder, can
request a correction. For a correction, you simply need to fill
out a correction/replacement form. If it is an instructor’s error,
there is a $30.00 fee. If it is a Dan Office error, there is no fee.
Two pictures must be submitted with the form and the original
certificate must be sent in. A copy of the birth certificate must
also be sent in when making name or Date of Birth changes.
Corrections take 4 – 6 months to process. Download the

Q: What are GUP certificates and how
can I order them?
A: GUP certificates are colored belt
certificates. To order GUP certificates your Club
must be a member of USA Taekwondo. You can
download an order form and get pricing
information by clicking on the link on the top of
this page. Please fill out the GUP certificate order
form and submit it with the proper payment.
Q: Why didn’t I receive one of the
certificates I ordered?
A: If you are missing a certificate it is more
than likely there is a problem with the
application. The Dan office does contact the
instructor by phone, mail or email if a problem
occurs. If there are any questions just contact the
Dan office for information on your applications.
Q: Are the promotion applications located
on the USAT website?
A: Yes, the promotion applications are located on
our website. Download the Dan application form
from the links at the top of the page. Please choose
the correct application. There is an application for
1st – 4th Degree and another for 5th Degree and up.
Q: How can I get Dan certification
rates?
A: Dan certification rates are only provided
to the club members that are set up to use this
service. The instructor can contact the Dan
office for pricing details.
Q: How can I check to see if an
instructor holds a specific rank?
A: Not all instructors process their Dan
applications through USA Taekwondo, so we
may not have this information on file. We also
do not release any personal information about
our members. The best way to check the rank of
an instructor is by contacting Kukkiwon,
directly. There is a link to their website at the
top of this page.
Q: How can I check to see if my certificate is
authentic?
A: If you have been promoted through USA
Taekwondo’s Dan Office, we can check your status.
However, not all instructors promote through USA
Taekwondo and we do not have a record of everyone
promoted through Kukkiwon, so the best way to check
the authenticity of your certificate is to contact
Kukkiwon, directly. There is a link to their website at
the top of this webpage.
Q: What is the difference between
Poom and Dan?
A: Poom certificates are for students who are
under the age of 15. Dan certificates are for
students who are 15 or older.
Q: Now that I am older than 15, can I have
my Poom Certificate changed to a Dan
Certificate?
A: Yes, we can have your Poom Certificate changed
to a Dan Certificate. Please fill out a
correction/replacement form and send it in to us along
with two pictures and the $30.00 processing fee. It
will take 4 – 6 months to process this request. If you
