Politics
Philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi has inspired many people around the globe -

Martin Luther King
Aung San Suu Kyi
Politics
• Gandhi considered politics as an instrument for the uplift of
mankind in social, economic, moral and spiritual spheres
• By Dharmic politics, Gandhi meant that it should be devoid
of corrupting influences and sectarianism
• Politics bereft of religion is a death trap which kills the soul. By
spiritualization of politics, Gandhi meant something larger than our
day to day life but not excluding world of day to day experiences. A
community of persons on the process of self-realization be able to
resist the corrupting influences of existing interests
• Gandhian equality - (a) impartiality (b) equal share to all (c) equal
share to equals (d) proportional equality (e) unequal shares
corresponding to relevant differences
Economy
Truth and Non-Violence are the foundation stones of Gandhian
Economics thoughts. According to Gandhiji, work is not only an
economic activity, it’s necessary for spiritual growth. Bapu wanted that
India should have its own economic policy. It should not follow any
foreign countries policy. Bapu’s economic thouthts were based on
Below six points:
• Swadeshi
• Mechanization
• Industrialization
• Trusteeship
• Villagism
• Decentralization
Environment
• Gandhi was a deep ecologist in the sense that he did not value
nature because it was useful to man but because it was the creation
of God and hence must remain as pristine as possible. Everything
that exists in the universe is part of a common omnipresent and
omnipotent Parmatma and hence has the right of its own.
• Gandhi therefore called for the limitations of wants so that man’s
stress on nature would be least possible.
• We have to rethink the ecology by exploring the totality of all
interrelations between human societies with everything in its
environment. The deep ecological philosophy reviews the
organization and operation of earth first.
• There is enough for the needy, but not for the greedy
Health & Education
• An education which does not teach us to discriminate between
good and bad, to assimilate the one and eschew the other, is a
misnomer.
• Education should be so revolutionized as to answer the wants of
the poorest villager, instead of answering those of an imperial
exploiter.
• Literacy in itself is no education.
• Literacy education should follow the education of the hand—the
one gift that visibly distinguishes man from beast.
• What is really needed to make democracy function is not
knowledge of facts, but right education.
• By education I mean an all-round drawing out of the best in the
child and man—body, mind and spirit.
God/ Truth/ Religion
• To Gandhi God is Truth and Love
• The nearest approach to Truth is through love
• Gandhi endeavoured to see God through service of humanity, for
he knew that God is neither in heaven, nor down below, but in
every one
• He believed in the fundamental Truth of all great religions of
the world.
But .. You may say
Gandhi was a great man.
Only he or other great people
could practice his philosophy.
Not a common man like me!
We believe Gandhian philosophy, thoughts and values are much like physics…
Anyone can practice them
Anywhere
Anytime
And they would give same results –Sarvodaya: WELFARE OF ALL
Success stories
A hard core criminal,
Laxman Gole, imprisoned
in Thane Central Jail, after reading
an Autobiography of Mahatma
Gandhi, has not only confessed to
the crimes he committed, but also
written apology letters to the
people whom he had harassed and
threatened before and now he is
propagating Gandhi philosophy
among prisoners.
Jennifer Aniston
has been inspired
by the Autobiography and
found new hope in life at a
time when there was turmoil
in her life after her divorce
with her husband Brad Pitt.
82 inmates of
Thane Central
Jail have
appeared
for
Gandhi Peace Exam on
