BACKGROUND AND NUMBERS
•
Pori and Rauma Colleges, Pori Adult Education Centre and Innova merged
into Länsirannikon Koulutus Oy Ltd Winnova and began providing educational services
together 1 Jan 2010.
•
The company has a turnover of over 60 Million Euro, 6000 students and approx. 800
members of staff.
•
The turnover of adult education is 25 million euro and 50 % of it is funded by labour
administration (labour market training)
•
The turnover of our department (Guidance and counselling) is about 2 million euro

Funded by the labour administration, labour market training is provided free of charge
to the participants.
•
Designed primarily for unemployed jobseekers and those over the age of 20 who are
under the threat of becoming unemployed.
•
The objective of labour market training is to improve the participants’ chances of
finding work.
•
There are two kinds of courses. Students can study certain professions (practical
nurse, construction worker, etc.) or attend guidance and orientation courses
(including training providing guidance towards an occupational field and improving
jobsearch capacities, IT skills and language training for immigrants.).
•
Labour market training also aims to promote the employment of the long-term
unemployed, ageing and disabled and to prevent exclusion.

Target groups:
-
People who are unemployed (under a threat to social exclusion because of
unemployment)

People who are longterm unemployed ( often have problems and that
causes the unemployment)

Young people ( don’t have enough working experience yet)

Rehabilitation clients (have different problems with their health)
-
Immigrants ( language skills are not good enough to enter the labourmarket)

Basic courses: 4 months/ 15 students: 1 month working in a group in Winnova and 3 months inthe-job training period (mostly students go to 2 different places).
• improving jobsearch capacities, learning about education possibilities, workplace visits.
•
Fyyrapaja: 8 weeks/ 10 students. 4 weeks working in a group in Winnova and 4 in-the-job training
period.

Duunibaari ”work- bar”: More individual way, consists of meetings with the teachers/ counsellors
and homework , health checks, personality and skill tests, in-the-job training period. The students
start one at a time and the lenght of a course can vary from 1 week to couple of months. The
course ends when the student gets a job, finds a place to study, process of health investigations
or into process of retirement.
•
Varikko: An alternative pathway in the vocational training in metal and construction. Work- based
guidance and councelling.
•
Immigrants integration training: 5 months/ 16 students: studying Finnish language and learning
about Finnish society and culture.
