EGH provides transitional housing, case management and drop-in services to
single, adult women who are homeless in Seattle and surrounding areas.
Our Project

The Studio
Two women share this space when they enter the program.

We warmed up the utilitarian space and mixed parts from 2
inexpensive wooden chairs – one black and one natural –
for more interest.

With no living room, we dressed each bed as a
daybed and left walls free for personalization.
Apartment #1
Four women share this space for up to 2 years.

Togetherness is important. We worked with the red couch
and then expanded the seating options so everyone has a
place to gather .

Other side of living room: We added much needed storage and
purchased some games & DVDs for the residents (inside sliding doors).

Similar layout: Five women share this space for up to 2 years.

We moved the dining area near the kitchen and added
tableware and kitchen items in all 3 apartments.

Consistency was requested, so we worked with the second
red couch, but changed the accent color to gold in this unit.
Lightweight, portable chairs allow everyone to join in.
Housewarming Kits
Graduates leave with few essentials.
We added housewares, TVs, lamps, bedding and more.

How’d We Do?
Theresa (who graduates from the program next month) and
Micheline (the case manager who wrote the note) are all smiles!
Did You Know?
There are about 100 transitional housing units for single women in the Seattle
area, not enough for the estimated 600 single homeless women looking for safety
each night.
Most women in transitional housing work or
go to school, but they work at low-paying or
temporary jobs.
Many come physically and emotionally
exhausted from living on the streets and in
emergency shelters.
