Cot & Stair Chair Operations
Model 35-A Mobile Transporter and the Stryker Stair Pro Stair Chair.
Back injuries are one of the most common causes of early retirement from the fire service. LIFT WITH
YOUR LEGS, NOT WITH YOUR BACK!!!!!
Tips Before Practice:
Use unloaded before you attempt to lift one with weight on it
Gradually increase the weight before attempting to lift a person.
Lift from the ends not from the sides.
The person at the head ALWAYS gives the lift commands.
Constant communication between you and your partner is very important.
Avoid lifting with your back, make a conscious effort to push with your leg muscles.
Make eye contact with your partner, announce, “Ready to lift” and following his/her acknowledgment, “LIFT”.
There will be very heavy patients to lift, ASK FOR HELP.
