Barcode Scanning
Goals
• To demonstrate how using barcodes can
improve the efficiencies of the scanning
process.
• To cover installation and configuration of
barcode scanning
• To discuss different aspects of barcode
scanning.
• As well as demonstrate a new piece of
software for enabling director to read
barcodes without using Kofax drivers.

Advantages of using barcodes
• Accuracy
• Scanning with using barcodes can have a very positive
impact on your scanning and indexing accuracy.
• Efficiency
• Time saved by no longer having to do document
separation.
• Knowledge at the scanning level
• By implementing Barcode scanning you take the
thinking out of the scanning process.

What about the barcode
• Where does the barcode come from?
• Wasp or loan origination
• Different types
• Document type identification
• Document type identification and keyword information
• How is the barcode used and when?
• The when can vary depending on location and current
processes.
• Barcode will always be at the start or on the first page
of a document type.

Required Software to read barcodes
• Kofax scanning software
• Must be purchased
• Must be installed on each scanning station
• Pegasus software
• Simple install shield ran on each station doing the
barcode recognition
• Machine must be registered for Production Document
Imaging
• Separate queue for the recognition piece

Setting up Director for barcode processing
• Install barcode enabled software on the
scanning station
• Either Kofax software or Pegasus
• Document type barcodes only
• Barcode process setup in Director Configuration
• Barcode process assigned on the Scan queue
• Document type and keyword barcodes
• Vbscript build and loaded into Director Configuration
• Barcode process setup in Director Configuration
• Barcode process assigned on the Scan queue

Document type barcodes only
• What steps need to be configured?
• A barcode process needs to be configured in director
configuration
• Let Director know what to expect when it finds a barcode and
how to handle it
• Documents must be mapped to values in order to
properly identify documents as they come in.
• The scan queue that is going to handle the barcode
documents must be set to look for barcodes.
• Please follow along as we walk through
setting up a barcode process

Document type and Keyword barcodes
• What steps need to be configured?
• A barcode process needs to be configured in director
configuration
• Let Director know what to expect when it finds a barcode and
how to handle it
• Documents must be mapped to values in order to
properly identify documents as they come in.
• At this step a Vbscript will be referenced that will break the
barcode into different sections.
• The scan queue that is going to handle the barcode
documents must be set to look for barcodes.

• Similarities?
• Apart from referencing a script to break apart the
information within the barcode the setup is very similar.
• Advantages?
• Because we are able to extract the Primary keyword
from the barcode it enables us to utilize our autofill
keyword set and have a fully indexed document.
• Please follow along in the handout as I walk
through the steps to setup the barcode
process for a multi field barcode.

What have we gained?
• Efficiency – by adding barcodes to the
scanning process it increases the efficiency
of scanning multiple times.
• Accuracy – Documents will no longer be
indexed under the wrong document types and
there will be no question as to what type of
document is being scanned.

Lab
• Please take the next 30 minutes or so to work
through the Barcode scanning handout.
• The steps you will be completing will be
• Installing the Pegasus software
• Setting up from scratch a barcode process to read Wasp
barcodes on the given documents
• Setting up a Vbscript in director client
• Setting up a barcode process to scan in laserpro barcode
documents
• If you have questions please do ask!
