Launched a direct alumni and friends fundraising appeal for the first time in 5
years, sent to 28,000 individuals

Implemented Payroll Giving so that staff who donate to the University can get
an immediate tax rebate of 33.33%
•
Coordinated effort to find ‘lost alumni’ through mediums such as Community,
E-News, Off Campus, events, graduation and our website
•
Markedly improved merchandise sales through product improvement and relocation to Bennetts, 5% of sales goes to support scholarships
•
Successful bid to Environment Bay of Plenty to fund $1.5 million over ten
years to support a new Chair in Coastal Science
•
Other major gifts include $50,000 from both Priority One and Port of
Tauranga for Intercoast, $50,000 from Antarctica NZ for ICTAR, a $25,000
bequest for scholarships, and a pledge of $90,000 over 3 years for a WMS
fellowship

• Evaluation of solutions and selection of Google suite of enterprise
products for Project Fusion (see www.waikato.ac.nz/project-fusion)
• Replaced aging network Firewall with next generation technology that
will allow us to now greatly improve network security
• Server virtualisation and ‘cloud’ infrastructure strategy continues to
provide great results – 72% of servers are virtual with 152 virtual
production servers running on 7 physical servers

 New telephony solution – vendor and solution selected
