Camille Catlett The Right Stuff: Resources to Support the Full Participation of Each Young Child Early Childhood Inclusion: A Joint Position Statement of DEC and NAEYC Early childhood inclusion embodies the values, policies, and practices that support the right of every infant and young child and his or her family, regardless of ability, to participate in a broad range of activities and contexts as full members of families, communities, and society. The desired results of inclusive experiences for children with and without disabilities and their families include a sense of belonging and membership, positive social relationships and friendships, and development and learning to reach their full potential. The defining features of inclusion that can be used to identify high quality early childhood programs and services are access, participation, and supports. http://www2.cde.state.co.us/media/res ultsmatter/RMSeries/FriendshipInclusion AndLearning.asp Liam’s Story: A Mother’s Voice My Name is Jude https://vimeo.com/118072510 https://vimeo.com/126299752 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFoLsYDQzzY Shifts in the Expectations Know Be able to do Evidence Evidence-Based Practices Recommended Practices F FAMILY A ASSESSMENT C COLLABORATION I L I INSTRUCTION T A T TEAMING E ENVIRONMENT LEADERSHIP INTERACTION AND TRANSITION Download a handout of free resources to support the use of DEC’s Recommended Practices at http://fpg.unc.edu/presentati ons/inclusion-institutepresentations ACCESS • Universal Design for Learning (UDL) • Assistive Technology PARTICIPATION • Peer Supports • Scaffolding • Embedded Learning • Tiered Models A sampling of evidence and resources, related to each practice, to support your learning and professional development needs Find them online at http://npdci.fpg.unc.edu/resources/quality-inclusivepractices-resources-and-landing-pads
