Base Words
A root word is a word in its simplest
form.
A root word has nothing added to it.
Examples:
Part
Ground
Write
Read
Quiet
Prefixes
Prefixes are added to the beginning of a root
word.
They change the meaning of the root word.
Examples:
Un + happy = unhappy
Re + do = redo
Base Words
Write the root words on the back of
your notetaker.
reheat
unhappy
antisocial
coworker

de- = from, down
inter- = between
under- = beneath
anti- = against
mono- = one
co- = together, with
re- = again
