STUDENT SCHEDULES 4 periods/day 2 semesters – 18 weeks each Each class meets daily for 90 minutes Block classes (semester) vs. A/B classes (yearlong) A/B Classes: Biology/9th Grade Literature Math I/Math I with Support Magnet AP Human Geography/Honors Government and Leadership Grade Placement Credit is earned for each class passed with a 70 or higher at the end of the each semester. 10th = 5 credits (Must have credits in English, Science, and Math) 11th = 10 credits (Must have two credits each in English, Science, and Math) 12th = 16 credits Graduation = 23 credits minimum Progress Report vs Report Card Reports are sent home at 6, 9, 12, 15, and 18 weeks. •A Report Card is given to each student during Advisement at 6, 12, and 18 weeks. •Progress Reports are given to each student by each of their teachers at 9 and 15 weeks. •All progress reports and report card grades except for the FINAL report card at 18 weeks are for your information only. THE TRANSCRIPT Only the final grades given at 18 weeks go on the transcript! •This is the students permanent record. •This is what is sent to colleges. •These are the grades that determine whether or not a student passes or fails the class. •These are the only grades used to calculate GPA and class rank. Honors courses do NOT add additional quality points to HOPE. AP courses add 0.5 quality points to the GPA UP TO 4.0. NORTH COBB HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2015 END OF COURSE TESTS Students take an End of Course (EOCT) test* at the completion of the following classes: Math I Math II U.S. History Economics Biology 9th Literature American Literature EOCT counts as 15% of their final grade in each of these classes NORTH COBB HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2015 Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGT) The State of Georgia requires students pass the GHSGT in five areas in order to receive a high school diploma. The five area tests are: Writing English/Language Arts Math Science Social Studies What is Honors? • Honors courses are taught at a faster pace and cover more material in greater depth than regular level classes. • Honors courses, except for most 9th grade courses, carry an extra .5 quality point. (not for HOPE core) • Honors level courses best prepare students for Advanced Placement Courses North Cobb Honors Courses • English: 9th Lit., American Lit., British Lit. World Lit.
