MAPPING OF AGRICULTURAL LAND
• Finalised – scale of 1:25000
• 1:50000 is in progress - improvement
• Data sets for agriculture and environment are
available at DAFF,
• Encourage Municipalities to use them when
developing their SDF’”s and LUMS

EVALUATION CRITERIA
• Agricultural Land Potential, capability, grazing capacity etc –
Schoemans report (criteria for unique and prime agric land),
• Compliance with DAF requirements and other existing
Policies, CARA and SALA and NEMA
• Impact on the surroundings,
• SDF - Town planning scheme,
• Urban edge,
• merits
DAFF’S VIEW ON DEVELOPMENT APPLICATION
• Applications numbers increased – minimum of 50
per month from all nine provinces,
• Prioritized – comments before 21 days
• Challenges – incomplete / unclear applications,
constant shifting of the urban edge towards
agricultural land,
• Site inspections,
