This four-hour presentation helps members of the
department understand and appreciate the differences
of “societal generation gaps” and how they impact dayto-day operations.
Using the program by Dr. Morris Massey, Who You Are
Is Where You Were When, as a foundation Dick
FELTS 2006-01
Johnson provides participants with an enlightened
understanding of why people do the things they do!
Prioritizing—
The Pathway to Success
FELTS 2006-01
Learning to Understand Pareto
The Pareto Principal
In this six-hour program, participants learn about the
solution to the age-old problem—“There just aren’t
enough hours in the day to get things done; what with
runs and having to deal with someone else’s failure to
FELTS 2006-01
plan . . .”
Dr. John Maxwell explains the 20/80 Rule.

components” of the State Certified Instructor Course.
An important element of this session deals with
FELTS 2006-01
Speech Writing and Public Speaking!
NATIONAL FIRE ACADEMY
FELTS 2006-01

presentation from Injoy
Developing the Leader Within You
This 12-hour video-driven presentation shows the Fire
Service the resources in the private sector that can
assist in Leadership Development for Fire Officers!
Dr. John Maxwell (through the use of video and a video
FELTS 2006-01
session guide) provides the learner with no-nonsense,
down-to-earth, time-proven leadership techniques!

Conflict Resolution
Coaching, Mentoring, Counseling,
and Conflict Resolution
FELTS 2006-01
This 6-hour session is a must for the Fire Department
Officer at every level. Ken Blanchard’s “The One
Minute Manager” and “Putting The One Minute
Manager To Work” are the foundation on which this
critical course has been developed.
Coaching, Mentoring, Counseling,
and Conflict Resolution
While structure fires pose a legitimate threat to our
safety and well-being, the fires of change, animosity,
misunderstanding, communication breakdown, and,
well, you name it, can also be career-ending issues.
FELTS 2006-01
Prevention is the name of the game.
A Guide to Formulating SOPs
for the Fire Service
This session uses the
publication written by
Christopher Schiller and
published by VFIS.
It has 8 hours of class time,
FELTS 2006-01
and a clinical with a 30-day
completion deadline.
WHAT OFFICERS NEED TO
Put It All Together!
In this final session, Division and Department Officers
are given the final step necessary to be a
Great Leader!
All nine sessions are put into a “tool box”
FELTS 2006-01
to be used with confidence and consistency.
Additional Programs

other classes to better

Principles and Practices
This new curriculum from Jones and Bartlett contains
18 chapters—everything a newly-promoted officer, or
soon-to-be promoted firefighter, should know to get off
to a great start. The course requires a two to three
week commitment on the participant’s part—definitely
time well spent.
 Approved by the International Association of Fire
Chiefs
 NFPA 1021 compliant for Fire Officer I and II
Preparing for Promotion
Members of the FELTS Team have experience in
preparing candidates for the Oral Testing & Interview
section of the promotional process—a key element in
today’s Fire Service.

State of Ohio
Certified Instructor I & II
A FELTS Team member authored the Lesson Plan
Outline and PowerPoint presentation used in the
State of Ohio Curriculum. This 72-hour course
prepares the participant as an instructor in adult
learning, both in Fire & EMS.
NOTE: Applicants are required to pass a written pre-test
FELTS 2006-01
(70% or better) prior to enrollment.
Call for more information (614) 875-5827.
Training in Acquired Structures
As the frequency of actual fires continues to dwindle,
it has become increasingly more important for the fire
service to take advantage of acquired structures for
training—utilizing both live-fire and non-fire scenarios.
Dick Johnson developed this program as a project at
the National Fire Academy. It is also part of the State
FELTS 2006-01
Certified Instructor Fire Curriculum.
College Credits
The University of Cincinnati will give credit toward a
Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science, through it’s Portfolio
Evaluation Program, for FELTS courses completed.
Successful completion of America’s Fire Service, plus
Prioritizing: The Pathway to Success, can receive 5 credit
hours of Personnel Management, while the balance of the
courses can receive up to 22 credit hours toward Electives.
