First stop… Cairo, ga

  Flowering trees, pecans, vegetables, family conversations, and George’s hometown memories await us in Cairo.

Trooper Jackie Robertson was born in Cairo. He served in the Horse Cavalry as a Buffalo Soldier before he began his major league baseball career.

thomasville, ga

 13 miles east of Cairo (GA highway 84) is Thomasville where Lt. Henry O. Flipper was born. He was the first black graduate of West Point Military Academy in 1877. and is buried in Magnolia Cemetery.

Welcome to the 9 th & 10 th (Horse) Cavalry 139 th Anniversary Reunion  We will honor World War II soldiers, meet Buffalo Soldier descendants and network with interested others.

     March 1949 - Army engineers recommend area for utilization 1989 – Forts constructed due to proximity to Cuba (Spanish-American War) April 4, 1900 - named Ft. Desoto after Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto Never the site of any major battles 1997 – Placed on National Register of Historic Places

Turl Covington 10 th cavalry – troop a ft. riley, ks  Born in St. Louis, MO on April 12, 1916.

 Played the bugle in the band and was company clerk  One of founding leaders for the establishment of the 9 th and 10 th (Horse) Cavalry National Association.
