     Acute hospital: 83 bed facility in Warragul High Care Nursing Home: 60 beds Low/High Care Hostel: 50 beds in Trafalgar Community Health Centres in Drouin, Warragul, Trafalgar and Rawson District Nurse outposts in Bunyip, Longwarry & Neerim South

Warragul is situated 103 kms from Melbourne 1 hours drive to the beach 1.5 hours drive to the snow 2.5 hours drive to the Gippsland Lakes

GRADUATE NURSE PROGRAM

2 Intakes

(1 st   January March Intakes now 12 weeks apart or 2 nd intake are negotiated at interview) 8 positions in the acute GNP in 2008

CLINICAL ROTATIONS

• • • • • • MEDICAL SURGICAL HIGH DEPENDENCY UNIT (6 weeks) ACCIDENT & EMERGENCY (6 weeks) DISTRICT NURSING (6 weeks) ELECTIVE HAEMODIALYSIS (6 weeks) or OPERATING SUITE (6 weeks)

Haemodialysis

Academic Components

    Five paid study days Monthly one hour tutorials Ward based assessments – Medication administration – Manual handling – Documentation audit Hurdle assessments – Infection control – Drug calculations

Other Requirements

 Annual BLS proficiency assessment  Work Plans x 2  Short presentation during one of the study days

 By 2011 – 17% of the population of the Baw Baw Shire are projected to be over 65 years of age  50 % of these people will be 75+

 Andrews House 50 bed Dual Care facility offering low and high levels of care. Situated in Trafalgar  Cooinda Lodge 60 bed high care Co-located at Warragul

Our Aim:

To support newly registered nurses who are wanting to pursue a career in the specialised field of Gerontics Low Care: To develop an appreciation of well, aged people in a supported setting High Care: This placement offers the experience of caring for people who are debilitated by advanced age (with or without a disease process)

12th June: (Tuesday) Hospital information session  4th July: (Wednesday) Closing date for applications to hospital and to computer match  August – September: Interviews  October: Hospitals notified of successful candidates by computer match  23rd & 24th October: Successful candidates notified by hospitals
