How we are influenced How Can Media Influence Attitude and Behavior? Authors use various tools to influence their audiences: Formal/informal Tone Influence and/or inform Explicit message vs. Implicit message Media carries a message Medium (singular form of media) is used to store or transmit the message Media forms include: Digital: internet, web sites, cell phone, text messages Visual: TV, Newspapers, magazines Audio: radio, TV, film, DVDs, CDs Who is the intended Audience? What is the level of Formality? Is it appropriate for the audience and purpose? What is the Tone of the media; is it appropriate? Does the media influence its audience and/or inform them? What is the message?
