3: Informational Binders (updated regularly):
In the interest of keeping everyone as informed and as up-to-date as
possible, we would strongly suggest that each school site consider
keeping a tab-divided binder containing the following information to
be updated regularly:
•
1: Printouts of all Cobb ESOL blog entries, correspondence, and emails (these often contain updated information that replaces earlier
material)—*one of the initiatives of the District Lead ESOL teachers for
the 2007-2008 school year is to maintain a blog that will be updated
regularly with pertinent information, Frequently Asked Questions, and
updates.
•
2: Documents, resources, and forms from the Cobb ESOL website
•
3: Documents, forms and handbooks from the GaDOE website

What to expect your first weeks of school:
• Identify and test ESOL students who are new to
COBB and do not have ACCESS or W-APT
information (work with registrar and use Home
Language Surveys)—including kindergarten
students
• Identify and locate existing/returning ESOL students
to compile a list of all students who need to be
served
• Gather teacher schedules of every teacher who has
an ESOL student
• Work up a daily schedule based on FTE guidelines
WIDA ACCESS for ELL’s
WIDA: World Class Instructional Design and Assessment
This is the company that publishes both of our ELL tests.
ACCESS for ELLs® stands for Assessing Comprehension and

W-APT: WIDA ACCESS Placement Test
Overview of the ACCESS for ELLs
The ACCESS is a state-mandated English proficiency test
given once a year during a testing window that spans
from January to March.
The ACCESS is a secure test that must be kept under lock
and key or in the immediate presence of a certified
teacher at all times.
This year’s testing window is from January 22 to March 3.
All teachers certify on-line (via a short multiple choice
quiz) to give the ACCESS. This process will begin in
November.
