New DOE Requirement for Scoring W-APT
The changes in the scoring include adjusting the CPL score for the lower grade/s within a given grade level cluster.
DOE has notified us to employ the new scoring method starting 2010-11.
New Tool for Scoring W-APT
We have adapted the state scoring sheet to prevent “hand calculate” of any adjusted CPL. Dr. Perry e-mailed adapted scoring sheets.
The adjusted CPL can be computed with an
online calculator
at http://www.wida.us/assessment/w apt/WAPT_Test.aspx
.
Why is adjustment necessary?
Students in the upper grades of each grade level cluster: 2nd graders in the 1-2 cluster, or 5th graders in the 3-5 cluster, and so on have potentially been exposed to more academic content topics. Therefore, they may be at a slight advantage over students in earlier grade levels within a cluster.
Scoring Adjustments
Mathematical adjustments are made to the scores of lower grade level students within the cluster. For example, in the 3-5 Cluster, students in grades 3 and 4 will get the adjustment, but students in 5th will not get the adjustment.
Please note that CPLs for Grades 2, 5, 8 and 12 test-takers do not need adjustment.
