- Swimming Canterbury West Coast - Swimming Eastern Districts - High Performance Sport New Zealand - Christchurch City Council - Swimming NZ - Coaches – Peter Burgon, Hayden Brown, Glen Findlay, Roly Crichton, Brigitte Mahan, Michaela Norman, Carl Gordon, Martin Harris, Tatiana Afanaseva, David Prattley, Aaron Billing, Oscar van Stekelenborg, Huia Mikara and Jenny Jones

- To provide a competition pathway for athletes of all ages. The main focus of the pathway is the constant pursuit of improved performance, skills and technique by allowing the athletes to be exposed to different training and racing environments along with different coaching styles.

- To provide a professional development pathway for coaches to learn from each other and to be exposed to athletes of all ages and abilities

Swimmers

Provide a platform to enable swimmers to reach Olympic and other world pinnacle events utilising expertise, support services and facilities available in the Canterbury region Deliver the swimmer/s to the team with a “winning edge” Provide opportunities to improve quality of training (challenges and stimuli's) Promote the rehersal of international standards and protocols at all ages Increase exposure to international competition and first class resources Have a base of swimmers capable of moving into a Performance Centre when the new complex is completed Challenge to be the No 1 province in New Zealand for athletes at all levels All swimmers recognise the pathway and strive to be part of it

Coaches

Provide the framework that allows coaches to refine and repeat the process of excellence Full written support from all coaches in the region with anti-coaching clause in the agreement On-going support and professional development for coaches from the region Develop coaches to the highest level and provide local support for them so they can join their swimmers on NZ teams Sharing of ideas and information between coaches for the betterment of swimmers

- Qualification Period: 1 st January 2013-30 th April 2013.

- The age of the athletes will be as at 1 the swimmers to be placed in the right squad for the end of year events) st of December 2013 (This allows - Swimmers must reside and be training within the new Canterbury West Coast/Eastern Districts regional boundary.

- Swimmers will be re-ranked following Wharenui Winter Olympics, South Island Champs and NZ Short Course Champs for end of year tours. NZ Short Course will be the premier event for re-ranking but South Island Champs and Wharenui Winter Olympics will be used where a swimmer is not eligible for NZ Short Course Champs

- Olympic Events only - Incentive for swimmers to improve and to move up squads and into squads but they must commit to the programme in writing.

- Coach Driven and organised - Professional Development for all coaches in area - Final selections will be made by the coaches committee and may take into account other factors including but not restricted to injury, training attendance and work ethic.

Development – Age Groups 12 & Under

Selected from 2012 Canterbury Junior Champs

Bronze – Age Groups 11-14

Use best XLR8 Points in one Olympic Events during qualifying period. Any ties will be broken with a count back to next best events.

Silver – Age Group 13-15

Use best 2012 FINA Long Course Points in one Olympic Event during qualifying period. Any ties will be broken with a count back to next best events.

Gold – Age Group 16-18

Use best 2012 FINA Long Course Points in one Olympic Event during qualifying period. Any ties will be broken with a count back to next best events.

Platinum – Age Groups 15 and Over.

Use best 2012 FINA Long Course Points in one Olympic Event during qualifying period. Any ties will be broken with a count back to next best events.

League Competition

- Local one to two hour league competitions on a Sunday afternoon - Not interclub but 8 teams of 8 swimmers (64 in total) with each team having an allocated coach and manager. - Relay and fun focus will full participation (i.e. restriction on number of events). Swimmers not allowed to swim the same events at every league meet.

- Build a template for the competition including a range of events to make it as simple as possible to select teams and to operate - Competition preceded by 30 minute skills sessions run by coaches.

CRITERIA - 11-14 years as at 1/12/13 - Limited to 36 swimmers - Top ranked 18 male and 18 female swimmers on their best XLR8 points score during the qualification period in an Olympic event.

- Swimmers will be re-ranked after the NZ Short Course Champs - Swimmers must reside and be training within the new Canterbury West Coast/Eastern Districts regional boundary.

- The final squad and tour selection will be made by the coaches committee.

TRAINING AND COMPETITION TOUR - Three day Training Camp in July School Holidays plus an inter squad competition (Flying Scotsman Trophy) - Target Competition - Southland Champs 28 Nov- 1 Dec 2013, Invercargill - Southland Champs Tour Budget $453
