He who humbles himself
shall be exalted; he who
exalts himself shall be
humbled.
Humble, modest and unpretentious
behavior embodies the definition
of humility. Not over estimating
our position in society along the
absence of pride, also exemplifies
true humility.
No wonder that humility seems so difficult to acquire for most of us.
Humility dismisses
nothing, rather, it takes
even small things into
consideration.
It recognizes that whatever life
presents, needs to be respected.
Small things are easily found in
something big, but inside little
things there is often greatness.
The beginning of greatness is to be little; to increase greatness is to be less,
and the perfection of greatness is to be nothing.
The world’s idea of greatness is to rule, but Christian greatness consists in
serving. The less there is of you, the more the light shines through.
-St. Francis de Sales.
Humility puts a hand out to nothing extra, but simply takes what’s there.
Even when we don’t understand, there is no worry, for in humility there is
the trust that everything will come anyway, at the right time.
Humility does not mean you think less of yourself. It means you
think of yourself less.-Ken Blanchard
There is something in humility which strangely exalts the heart.
-Saint Augustine
Once you accept the fact that you’re not
perfect, then you develop some
confidence. ~Rosalynn Carter
Swallow your pride occasionally, it’s not fattening. ~Frank Tyger
To admit you were wrong is to declare you are wiser now than before.
Be humble or you'll
stumble. D.L. Moody
Humility is to make a
right estimate of
one's self. -Charles
Spurgeon
Humility does not mean thinking less of yourself than of other people, nor
does it mean having a low opinion of your own gifts.
It means freedom from thinking about yourself one way or the
other at all. -William Temple
They that know God will be humble, and they that know themselves
cannot be proud. -John Flavel
Humility is the solid foundation of all virtues. -Kong Fu Zi
Pride makes us artificial and humility makes us real.-Thomas Merton
What makes humility so desirable is the marvelous thing it does to us; it
creates in us a capacity for the closest possible intimacy with God.-Monica Baldwin
Saint Augustine
It was pride that
changed angels into
devils; it is humility
that makes men as
angels.-Saint
Augustine
We come nearest to the great when we are great in humility.-Rabindranath Tagore
Humility is the only true wisdom by which we prepare our minds for
all the possible changes of life. --George Arliss
Do you wish to rise? Begin by
descending. You plan a tower that
will pierce the clouds? Lay first
the foundation of humility.
Saint Augustine
Humility makes great men twice honorable. --Benjamin Franklin
A sarcastic person has a superiority complex that can be cured
only by the honesty of humility.-Lawrence G. Lovasik
I am the least of the apostles. -1 Corint.15:9
I am the very least of
all the saints.
-Ephesians 3:8
I am the
foremost of sinners.
-1 Timothy 1:15
Humility invites grace.
Humility is the foundation of all the other virtues hence, in the soul in
which this virtue does not exist there cannot be any other virtue except
in mere appearance.
I believe the first test of a
truly great man is in his
humility.-John Ruskin
The person who toots his own
horn has everyone running to
get out of the way.
He who stays notz. in his littleness, loses his greatness.
-St. Francis de Sales.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility
consider others better than yourselves.
Each of you should look not only to your own
interests, but also to the interests of others.Philippians 2:3 and 4
Have you observed a rice field and noticed which heads are bent and
which ones stand up straight?
Well, the empty heads are standing tall and high. The heads that are filled
with grains are bending low. Indeed, the true great and strong people are
humble and gentle. True giants don't mind bowing low.
There is plenty of room for God to those who humble themselves.
It's hard to look
down on others
while telling them
what we admire
about them.
The more we put positive
thoughts about others into
words, the more good we'll see in
them and the less likely we will
fall in to the egotism trap.
If I have seen further than
others, it is by standing upon
the shoulders of giants.- Isaac
Newton
come nearest to the great
when we are great in
humility. .-Rabindranath
Tagore
Albert Einstein, one of the
greatest minds ever, said, "I
have never met a man so
ignorant that I couldn't
learn something from him.”
Everyone has something we can learn .
Be humble enough to recognize this.
It's been said that the hardest words to say
in any language are "I was wrong."
Those who refuse to do so out of
pride, are likely to keep making
the same mistakes and alienate
people in the process.
To understand a real humility is to consider the life of Jesus, the sinless Son
of God, Ruler of the world and King above all, yet He was born in a manger.
The greatest among
us are those who
serve with joy and
humility; for the
common good not
for their own.
