Flee the love of money
(6:11a)

11 “But you, O man of God, flee [Grk. pheugo,
Lat. fugio, Eng. fugative: to separate, get away from,
distance yourself from a danger] these things
[covetousness, greed]...”
Follow the virtues of the Spirit
(6:11b)

11 “But you, O man of God, flee these things
& pursue righteousness [personal integrity; high
moral principle], godliness [devotion to God],
faith [faithfulness, trustworthiness, dependability],
love [personal sacrifice in service], patience
[endurance; courage in difficulty], gentleness
[meekness; power under control].”
Fight the good fight of faith
(6:12-16)

12 “Fight [Grk, “agonizo”; a soldier will strain
himself to give his best to the battle] the good
fight of faith…”

12 “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on
eternal life, …”

Confident Assurance (12a) – eternal life is
within his grasp.

12 “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on
eternal life, to which you were also called &
have confessed the good confession in the
presence of many witnesses. 13 I urge you in
the sight of God who gives life to all things,
& before Christ Jesus who witnessed the
good confession before Pontius Pilate,”

Bold Confession (12b-13) – he made the same
confession as Jesus made.

(6:12-16)

14 “that you keep this commandment
without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus
Christ’s appearing, …”

Word of Warning (14) – his stewardship of the
gospel will demand an accounting.

15 “which He will manifest in His own time,
He who is the blessed & only Potentate, the
King of kings & Lord of lords, 16 who alone
has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see,
to whom be honor & everlasting power.
Amen”

Fearful Description (15-16) – God the Father
has absolute authority in realms seen & unseen.
Guard the faithful Word
(6:20-21)

20 “O Timothy! Guard what was committed
to your trust [1 Tim 1:11; 6:20; 2 Tim 2:2],
avoiding the profane & idle babblings &
contradictions of what is falsely called
knowledge -- 21 by professing it some have
strayed concerning the faith. Grace be with
you. Amen.”

Wrong Motives & Wrong Teachings will cause
one to leave the faith.
Instructions to the rich
(6:17-19)

17 “Command those who are rich in this
present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in
uncertain riches but in the living God, who
gives us richly all things to enjoy.”



18 “Let them do good, that they be rich in
good works, ready to give, willing to share,
19 storing up for themselves a good
foundation for the time to come, that they
may lay hold on eternal life.”

Employ What God Gives You (18-19)
Timothy’s mission was to save
himself &
those he
taught.
The entire church past & present
has a duty to hear & obey
these divine directives.
