Mr Kanti Taylor
•
Golden Gate Services Limited (GGSL) was incorporated as a
private Limited Liability Company under the Companies
code 1963 (Act 179). Its regulations authorized it to
undertake general cargo services and stevedoring, freight
forwarding and clearing, haulage and warehousing.
The company was established by a group of business
executives and professionals in the Maritime Transport
Industry who decided to take advantage of the then
proposed privatization of the Ghana Ports and Harbours
Authority (GPHA) after a World Bank study.
GGSL was first licensed as stevedores by the Ghana Ports &
Harbours Authority on 1st January, 2002. Under the initial
license, GGS was entitled to handle 10~/o of the cargo
throughput at the Ports of Tema and Takoradi.
GGSL since 2002 operated with the 10% quota alongside 9
other private stevedores including GPHA with 25% share of
the cargo throughput. In September W07, GOSL’s quota of
work was reduced to 8.33% in an effort by GPHA to level
out the remaining 75% workload amongst the 9 private
stevedores operating in the port.

Despite the reduction in the quota GGSL continued to operate to the satisfaction of its customers
resulting in commendations from shipping lines and agents :'01' work well executed. Some of the
reasons behind the successes are the fact that:
GGSL invested substantially and still continue to invest in the latest cargo handling equipment.
GGSL also have on its permanent staff list, 88 highly trained personnel with specialized knowledge
and expertise in cargo handling and stevedoring.
Coupled with the above is their pride of having a strong team of high calibre professionals at the
