Who should be on the Tech Team
and what does the Tech Team do?
The Tech Team is essential in
ensuring winning conditions are
in place to facilitate the
integration of ICT for life-long
learning.
*Information and Communication Technologies
Who is on the Tech Team?
 One teacher rep per cycle (preferably)
 A school administrator
When and how do they meet?
Meet at least once per month for an
official meeting
Release time is provided
Minutes are taken
An agenda is posted for the staff
What does the Tech Team do?
 Take a tech inventory
 Look at the AUP in place at the School Board
 Discuss ICT purchasing decisions
 Occasional troubleshooting
 Meet with the School Board Technician
 Disseminate ICT related information
 Organize a school web site
Take a tech inventory...
 Take a hardware inventory (I.e. computer type, serial
numbers and location)
 Take a software inventory
 Know where all the software is located - preferably in a
locker to which the tech team has a key
 Create a signup sheet for the peripherals and software to
keep track of their location at all times
Look at the ICT Acceptable use Policy...
Students need to be aware of Cyberspace
and the proper treatment of ICT
 Make sure that the AUP is
properly disseminated in
your school - meet with the
staff
 Keep a record of the
“Consent Forms” signed
 Make sure everyone is
aware of Netiquette and
Netcitation
Netcitation
The Basics:
1 - Always reference the site you got the information
from - I.e., give the URL
2- Always indicate the name of the site
3 - Always indicate the date
EXAMPLE:
Space Shuttle Atlantis
Taken from Nasa Human Space Flight:

November 14, 2000
Discuss ICT purchasing decisions...
Be informed before you purchase  Find out what your School
Board recommends
 Be aware of what the
technology
can do for pedagogy
 Should you sacrifice a computer
to buy more peripherals?
 The Marois Plan is in its
final year - SPEND WISELY!!!
Occasional trouble shooting...
Offer a ‘tech orientation’ session for fellow staff members
 Show them the basics I.e., how to: shutdown properly,
restart after a freeze, change the
ink cartridge for the printer etc…
 If your school has a server know how to reboot it and do
some minor troubleshooting
Meet with the school board technician...
 Have a representative of the
tech team be in charge of
meeting with the technician
upon school visits
 Email the technician in
advance with a list of
prioritized items to be fixed
in the school
 Inform the staff of this procedure so they that can alert the
tech team rep of tech problems in their class
Disseminate ICT info to the staff...
 Be in touch with your local CEMIS/RECIT and your
school board ICT consultant (preferably have a Tech Team
listserv for the school board)
 Pass any information you get from your RECIT on to your
staff - For example:
Full Speed Ahead - a monthly electronic bulletin
Conference information (E.g., AQUOPS)
Information on web copyright and netcitation
ICT related literature (E.g., Learning & Leading with Technology)
Grant information (E.g., GrassRoots)
Look at ICT Exit Profiles on the QESN Connection (created by the English
CEMIS/RECIT)
Do this by having the Tech Team cycle reps
meet with their cycle teams!!!
Help organize a school web site
Include:
School information and services
A showcase area for student work
(E.g., St. Dorothy Elementary, EMSB)
 Have the students be involved
 Train a Student Tech Team to make sure that all the links are
in order and to FTP student web pages
 Show staff members how to FTP
Don’t forget to get a GrassRoots grant!!!
Don’t forget who we are doing it for...
Help organize a school web site
Helpful hints...
The Tech Team is the hub of ICT integration for
enhanced learning BUT remember to:
 Take things slow
 Don’t try to do everything at once!!!
 Set realistic goals
 Network with other Tech Teams via the school
board Tech Team listserv
