Module Goals
2
The goal of this module is to:
Introduce the hardware and software
components of the RNI system and its associated
user interfaces.
Module Objectives
3
Following this module, you should be able to:
1. State the three major components of an RNI
system.
2. Describe the primary function of each of the
three components.
3. Identify the key RNI tools and their primary
uses.
Review: RNI Component Overview
RNI System Overview
• Stores the meter and system data
• Processes data for diagnostics, reporting, routing and
other applications
• Key components include:
– Hardware servers
– Software applications
– Databases
• Installed in Sensus data center or
utility’s climate controlled
environment

RNI: Core Network of FlexNet Solution
RNI System Overview
• It acts as the gatekeeper for all system data
• It receives consumption, status, and routing
information data from Base Stations
– Software running on the hardware servers separates the
received data based on its type/function and stores it in
various tables in the databases
• It receives requests for stored data from RNI webbased user interfaces for:
– Display in a variety of reports, maps and logs
– Configuring devices within the system
5
RNI: Core Network of FlexNet Solution (Continued)
RNI System Overview
• Meter Data Management, Billing, and Network
Management tools can request data from the RNI
database through standard gateway interfaces
(MultiSpeak, CMEP)
• From the data received, the utility can monitor the
operation of meters, Base Stations, and the various
RNI components to ensure timely and accurate
billing for services
