Introduction – Division 2

What does Division 2 cover?

• Measurement of Light and Radiation • UV, Visible and Infrared radiation • Optical properties of materials and luminaires • Optical properties and performance of physical detectors

Who is Division 2?

• • •

Outgoing Director:

Teresa Goodman (UK)

Incoming Director:

Yoshi Ohno (USA)

Editor and Australian Representative:

Jim Gardner

Presented Papers

Presented Papers

• Papers presented at the conference include: – Absolute Integrating Sphere Photometry; – CCD-based Near-field Goniophotometry; – Characterisation of Integrating Spheres for accurate LED measurement;

Presented Papers

• Papers presented at the conference include: – Luminance contrast measurement of FPDs under daylight ambient condition; – Correction of stray light in CCD-based spectroradiometers and imaging devices; – Measurement of “naturalness”.

Technical Committee Meetings

TC2-40

Standard for Characterizing the Performance of Illuminance Meters and Luminance Meters

• New standard to give clear and unambiguous definitions for individual quality indices • Discussion surrounding characterisation of: – V (  ) mis-match index f 1 ’.

• A new definition is likely to include uncertainty.

– Directional response index f 2 .

• Discussion regarding to measure out to 80 ° or 85 ° • The new definition will likely average the cosine response over four half-planes

TC2-49

Photometry of Flashing Lights

• New technical report for photometric measurements of flashing light, including measurement of light sources, and calibration of photometers for flashing light.

• New definition for derivation of “effective intensity” to replace the old B-R-D, Allard and Schmidt-Clausen.

TC2-51

Calibration, Characterization and Use of Array Spectroradiometers

• Mainly for spectroradiometers that use CCD arrays for real-time spectral measurement • Looking at properties of these devices, how to characterise and calibrate, and also sources of uncertainty • Subsequent meeting with TC chair in Melbourne

TC2-59

Characterisation of Imaging Luminance Measurement Devices (ILMDS)

• Mainly for the devices that use CCD cameras to perform luminance measurements • Looking at properties how to characterise and calibrate, etc.

– Scattered light, Linearity, Spectral Response, Uniformity, etc.

– Binning, Blooming, Smear

TC2-47

Characterisation and Calibration Methods of UV Radiometers

• Currently no uniform method of calibration that produces universally consistent results, ie: lamp and detector-dependant.

• New guide will recommend methods for characterisation of UVA, UVB and UVC radiometers with quality indices similar to luxmeters.
