the FRC Kick-off?
Key to Success:
• Understanding the game and how to win
• Merge the design wisdom with fresh perspectives of
multiple participants
• Quickly combine into an executable design

Before Kickoff
• Read FRC Administrative Manual:
Go to www.usfirst.org – FRC – Game & Season Info
– Competition - Competition Manuals and Related Documents
http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc/content.aspx?id=452
• The password to the remaining FRC Game Manual will be announced at the
kickoff meeting
• Files can be downloaded a few day’s before and the password can be used to
unlock the files at the meeting.

RAHS Robotics
Rapid Prototyping Concept
Attend Kickoff/Q&A
• At the Kickoff they will announce the game
• Opening comments, and discuss design considerations
• Review any new features of the kit
• Announce the Game; name, explain the theme,
• Play animated video and give design hints
Attend
Kickoff/Q&A
• Break into teams
• Attend all Sessions
• After the announcement they will conduct a walk through on a practice
field and answer any questions
• After the Kickoff meeting team members are randomized and sent to
classrooms to discuss what they heard
• Do not be afraid to share any design ideas, openly brainstorm
• Test ideas against the rules (so read fast if you have the rules)
• Meetings are not hosted
• Tell the new participants these meetings are not hosted
• Take the lead, or volunteer someone, and support whoever does
take the lead

AHS Robotics 2009 – 2010
Rapid Prototyping Concept
Basic Terms/Concepts:
• Baseline design – A design that always exists, often flawed, but represents what we would
execute today.
• Trade Study – An investigation of a design detail or approach that results in a
recommendation on how to improve the design.
• Design Review – Presentation and review of the baseline design. May include trade study
discussions.
• Chief Engineer – Makes final design decisions considering all aspects of the success of the
program including; producibility, performance, schedule, personnel, et. al. Decisions may be
intended as a temporary assumption for the purpose of driving other design features.
• Rolling Baseline – A baseline that is repeatedly improved based on chief engineer decisions.
• Design Release – The baseline design or portion of the baseline design that is released by the
Chief Engineer for fabrication. Note: the rolling baseline may continue to refine the released
design which may require rework.
• Key Performance Parameters (KPPs) – Key performance parameters required to win the
game; speed, lift rate, block capacity, acceleration, program capability, projectile range…
