May include trade study discussions. • Chief Engineer – Makes final design decisions considering all aspects of the success of the program including; producibility, performance, schedule, personnel, et. al. Decisions may be intended as a temporary assumption for the purpose of driving other design features. • Rolling Baseline – A baseline that is repeatedly improved based on chief engineer decisions. • Design Release – The baseline design or portion of the baseline design that is released by the Chief Engineer for fabrication. Note: the rolling baseline may continue to refine the released design which may require rework. • Key Performance Parameters (KPPs) – Key performance parameters required to win the game; speed, lift rate, block capacity, acceleration, program capability, projectile range… 30 RAHS Robotics Rapid Prototyping Concept Remember the Keys to Success: • Understanding the game and how to win • Merge design wisdom with fresh perspectives of multiple participants • Quickly combine into an executable design Kic kOff Sat Attend Q&A • Break into teams • Attend all Sessions Design Baseline •Brainstorm •Assign Study Groups Sun Study Rules • Review & Test • Game Simulation Wed/As Req’d M&T Design & Strategy Dev Trade Study Groups • Team Brainstorm • Concept assessment Design Review •Subsystem Definition •KPPs/ Win Strategy •Alternate Concepts Chief Engineer Decision Design Release Strategy & Requirements Baseline • Win Strategy • Key Performance Parameters • Subsystem Requirements 31 AHS Robotics 2008 – 2009 Rapid Prototyping Concept Cycle Day Baseline KPPs Trade studies Design Release Goal 1st DR 4 Initial Def Define our win strategy Initial KPPs Win Strategies Game strategy & KPPs Subsystem Names Initial design Description 2nd DR 5 Base Finalized Refined Base Design 3rd DR 6 Acquisition Refined Acquisition 4th DR 7 Effector Refined Effector 5th DR 8 etc etc 6th DR 9 etc Base Design Acquisition Effector etc as needed 32 AHS Robotics 2008 – 2009 Rapid Prototyping Concept Remember the Keys to Success: • Understanding the game and how to win • Merge design wisdom with fresh perspectives of multiple participants • Quickly combine into an executable design Ki ckOff 1 Day Attend Q&A • Break into teams • Attend all Sessions 1 Day Study Rules • Prepare test questions • Take test 2 Days 1 Day Dev Init Design Baseline Game Strategy Review • Team Brainstorm • Post Simulation Review Strategy Study Groups •Brainstorm •Assign Study Groups Game Simulation & Video Design Review •Subsystem Definition •KPPs/ Win Strategy •Alternate Concepts Chief Engine er Decisio n Design Release Design Study Groups Systems Integration Strategy Baseline development • Win Strategy • Key Performance Parameters • Subsystem Requirements • Revise 33 FIRST Robotics Mentor Workshop FRC Build Season Introductory Videos From FIRST Home: http://www.usfirst.org/ 34 FIRST Robotics Mentor Workshop FRC Build Season - Agenda Introduction 5 min First Week 10 min Remaining Season 15 min Competition 10 min Q&A 15 min 35 FIRST Robotics Mentor Workshop FRC Build Season - Introduction • Example KO video • Animation/kit boxes • Pre-season • • • • Money organization mentors long lead procurement 36 FIRST Robotics Mentor Workshop FRC Build Season – First Week • Strategy / Design • • • • • • Mentor Participation: HIGH Game Assessment Strategy of Play…How to WIN Brain Storm – worksheet Preliminary Design Awards… Rookie awards DR DR Ship 1/6 1/13 2/16 Wk 1 Wk 2 Wk 3 Wk 4 Wk 5 Wk 6 Brain Storm & Preliminary Design Final Design Manufacture Test & C/O Container/Pit Design/Fab/Pack SW Development Game Preps 37 FIRST Robotics Mentor Workshop Build Season – Remaining Season • Build Schedule • • • • • • • Mentor Participation: MED Design/Build Procure Machine Shop support Programming Testing Shipping DR DR Ship 1/6 1/13 2/16 Wk 1 Wk 2 Wk 3 Wk 4 Wk 5 Wk 6 Brain Storm & Preliminary Design Final Design Manufacture Test & C/O Container/Pit Design/Fab/Pack SW Development Game Preps 38 FIRST Robotics Mentor Workshop FRC Build Season - Competition • Travel • Pit Setup • Re-work and Repair • Game play • Scouting • Mentor Participation: LOW Ship 2/16 Regionals 2/2628 Championship 4/22-25 (tbd) 3/12 – 14 Rework Rework Test/ Rework Test/ Rework Block Dev – Post Ship Block Dev Test/ Rework Block Dev 39 FIRST Robotics Mentor Workshop FRC Build Season – Competition 40 FIRST Robotics Mentor Workshop FRC Build Season – Q&A • Please ask any questions you may have… • Thanks for coming DR DR 1/6 1/13 Wk 1 Wk 2 Wk 3 • We are here to help you… Robert Steele, Coach: [email protected] Ship Ship 2/16 2/16 Wk 4 Wk 5 Wk 6 Brain Storm & Preliminary Design Final Design Manufacture Regionals 2/2628 Championship 4/22-25 (tbd) 3/12 – 14 Rework Rework Test & C/O Container/Pit Design/Fab/Pack Test/ Rework Gary Miller, Mentor: [email protected] SW Development Test/ Rework Test/ Rework Game Preps Block Dev – Post Ship Block Dev Block Dev FRC Senior Mentor Teleconference Recordings Mentor Teleconferences • GOOD LUCK!!!!
