What is Nikkei-jin?
Nikkei-
term for Japanese emigrants
from Japan and their descendants to
other parts of the world.
First recorded emigration was during
the 12th century to the Philippines
Mass emigration started during the
Meiji Era, to North America and later to
Latin America
Estimated 2.5M nikkeis living in
adopted countries
“Nikkei-jin” is the Japanese term for
Japanese Emigrants and their

descendants
The Philippine Nikkei-jin
Offsprings from the union between
Japanese father and Filipino mother
2nd generation and their descendants
Majority of these 2nd generation were
born before 1945
Majority of nikkei-jins now belong to
the 3rd and 4th generations
