HIS M2M Comm. – Summary (2)
• Highlights of current activities (cont.)
–
ATIS created M2M Focus Group currently assessing use case analysis for M2M, Smart Grid, eHealth and
Connected Vehicle for the purpose of revealing the commonalities relative to specifications and
requirements that the use cases suggest. Included is the effort to seek an and architectural definition for an
M2M Service Platform
• Next steps / Actions

–
–
ETSI will attract further liaisons, co-operations and involve more stakeholders, start work on M2M Release 2
TTC focuses on SDO’s coordination among Verticals and ICT community, TTC and ARIB collaboration on
this matter has started
TTA PG708 started 13 Work Items for M2M and consolidation activities for global M2M standardization
TIA will continue work on “Convergence Layer”, M2M Communication Systems Requirements and use
cases for CDMA2000 Networks, harmonize with other standard entities
CCSA engages in consolidation of international M2M standardization and involvement of Vertical Industries
ATIS will continue interaction and collaboration with Verticals, coordinate M2M activities with other SDOs
and organizations, proceed use case assessment for sifting out service layer commonalities across different
verticals
ITU-T invites contributions to the IoT-GSI to provide global IoT standards. Also fosters coordination and

Cloud HIS Summary

•
GSC16-CL-02
The market is demanding cloud services, but inconsistencies in approach and
environment are a barrier to adoption
Work with demand-side to develop commercial priorities such as CDN-I and
Telepresence
Work with supply side for solution certification
– Interoperability, Security and Privacy, Data Structures
The World is Flat: Global, Regional, and National organizations contribute value
– A person with an idea in Halifax can have a global impact!
– It’s not just telecom. Close collaboration with IT is required.
A lightweight framework of standards (e.g., Terms & Definitions, Architecture) is
needed to organize and streamline these contributions.
– This enables the comparison services from different suppliers
– This provides structure in commercial contracts (e.g. SLAs)
There are overlaps of standardization activities among the SDOs and Consortia.
– How do we get less people working on the infrastructure and more people
working on services?

Next Steps
–
–
–
–
•
Accessibility is becoming a market driven necessity
Regulatory actions demand and require accessibility to be taken into account.
Work underway to bridge the gap between today’s wireless TTY-based emergency
communications and the IMS-based non-audio emergency services of tomorrow
ICT accessibility is currently under-represented in the mainstream of ICT standardization
Challenges are organizational rather than technical in nature
Steadily the landscape will change for devices and services toward greater accessibility
Move accessibility from “social good” to business practice, and access for all
Encourage a coordinated approach to ICT Accessibility standardization
Continued dialogue to identify standards to pursue would be very useful
Continue to cooperate with social welfare organizations, corporations, government and
non-government organizations and international companies to exchange ideas and
experience, and research and develop more information accessibility standards
