USING NATURE AS MODEL FOR NEW NANOTECHNOLOGY-BASED PROCESSES

Miniaturized and micro-scale bioreactors are designed, fabricated and studied in order to get sophisticated tools for experimental studies on cell-to-cell signaling mechanisms. Understanding the intercellular communication may result to increased production rate or higher volumetric productivities of a wide number of therapeutic products, nutriceuticals and special chemicals. New bioreactor systems and knowledge gained using them will contribute to further development of both the red and the white biotech.

ICTP Mineralogical collections

http://www.vscht.cz/min/en_index.html

With the 23861 inventory numbers belong the mineralogical collections to the largest and best organized university collections. They are internationally registered in a list of world known collections in Europe.

They were created by professor F. X. M. Zippe in the year 1835, enlarged by professor Jan Krejci, whose detailed catalogue of minerals issued in the year 1899 has been preserved till the present days. Professor Augustin Ondrej shaped the collections in such form which would well serve also to the next generation as a basis of science and pedagogic work.
