Educate the public about the functions of their
Police Department
Highlight the roles of each Public Safety
Department
Citizens attending will become more confident
and knowledgeable about their public safety
departments
Help to improve communications between all
public services
Citizens Police Academy Overview
This course will consist of (10) classes
Each class will be taught by a certified Police
Officer, Paramedic, EMT, and/or Firefighter
Each participant will be 18 years of age or older.
Also every participant will either live or work in
the town of Acushnet
There will be no cost to the participant

Meet and Greet, familiarization with the town and the
Acushnet Police Department
Constitutional Law & Criminal Law
Motor Vehicle Law & Traffic Stops
Familiarization with Acushnet EMS
Domestic Abuse, Elder Abuse & Juvenile Issues
Use of Force
Familiarization with Acushnet Fire/Rescue Department
Crime Scene Investigations
Firearms Safety
Wrap up with presentation of certificates
